Ah yes, the famous Luxembourg Riviera (think I might have missed a post or two!).
I've got a crappy cold, chipped a tooth that has cut my tongue and have to have stupid cancer checks. I'm in a filthy mood.
I've gone for a beer which is going to make me a couple of minutes late to collect the Generalissimos and I frankly don't care.
Beer sounds like a good idea. I am sat at my desk at work watching the rain, it is supposed to be a family day out to Chessington but the weather put paid to that. Somehow despite spending a day queueing at a theme park not being my favourite past time, it doesn't make being at work feel any better.I think....0 -
Don't get me wrong, I am all in favour of uniform, just object to bespoke uniform that costs x times as much as generic versions of the same thing.
White shirt/blouse, dark grey shorts/trousers/skirt, school tie (tied correctly !!!!!!, it ain't that hard), black shoes, black or blue socks (to allow for some individuality). No makeup, no jewellery apart from a watch.
That is what I will mandate when I run an island somewhere warm. I will sell the tie licences of course. Prison for any head teacher that doesn't enforce the tie part of the uniform.0 -
At the primary DGS is moving to, the school is happy for the kids to wear plain polo shirts that can be bought in the supermarket etc....which would be fine except that none of them wear those, they all have the logoed ones
But a lot of the older boys apparently wear ordinary short-sleeved shorts now, so I bought him a couple of those too.
When DS went to secondary we bought him a school tracksuit and were advised to leave plenty of room for growth; he used the same one all the way through! But needed a new blazer every year. One year I even had to buy him another to go back in after Easter as he'd grown so much the sleeves were at half mast <reminisces nostalgically>
I think gfplux must be going to a river beach, or perhaps there's a lake, I know nothing about Luxembourg.
ETA Gen Are school ties really needed if it's "somewhere warm"? Mind you, I suppose if you're going to be selling the tie licenses.....0 -
The paediatric OT returned my call today. I explained all about the situation. She was very helpful. She's going to try to get one of the department to squeeze in one appointment with him to do his letter for the exam boards to get his extra time, and then he can carry on sitting on the waiting list to be treated.
Meanwhile my solicitor is on holiday. When he gets back, I'll discuss the possibility of getting DS some private OT, but in the mean time at least the extra time angle will be sorted in time for the science coursework (a practical investigation followed by a timed exam about the experiment - hence the need for extra time for him).
It feels like good progress. I am happy.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Anyone got any tips for best man speeches???
Or giving speeches in general.
Wedding is Monday and I really need to get it done tomorrow “I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -

H has been best man four times and involved in countless speeches. He tends to make videos, but failing that, we work around a on a song, hopefully about the bride's name or something similar. Say it's a poem for the bride and groom, and read it out as a poem - people don't recognise lyrics to start with, then everyone starts singing when they get it. Obviously, you have to sing at the chorus as lots of people still won't have it. But it's fun watching people's faces as it dawns across a room.
My favourite one was when the bride was Marie and he got all the way to 'shalalalalalalala' (clap clap) before people all realised together.
Probably crap, but I love it and other friends have done it.
He did another one for his new BIL about the 'circle of trust' from Meet the Parents.
Our best man read out pretend telegrams.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

If they hadn't fallen apart, we would have been able to reuse youngest's blazers for years.....unfortunately, the quality was pretty awful, so wouldn't even last a couple of terms before becoming too tatty to wear.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
