Not having been part of the system and not knowing anybody who went to Uni .... I don't understand all that lot. But it sounds good.

    For ref :)

2 key processes in University life.

    1) UCAS and the whole entry process

    2) Leaving Uni/Jobs : part of which is the "milk round"

To companies the "milk round" is where they can come and present to potential student employees the virtues of working for their company.

To students however, the "mik round" involves sitting through boring presentations, followed by judging the company on how good a beer and food spread they provide at the back of the room! :D

Just happened to check UCAS track this morning (to check what grades were needed) and Josh's firm choice has changed from conditional to unconditional....actually happened on the 4th of this month. His insurance choice had changed to unconditional at the back end of last month, not that we had noticed as we hadn't looked on there for months.

Only problem now is that Josh was so convinced he would miss the target and had got it all planned in his head to stay on for another year to improve his grades (and his confidence) and now can't get his head around going off to uni, he is having a major confidence wobble and looks like a rabbit caught in headlights (albeit with a stupid grin on his face at other odd moments)
    Congratulations to Josh!
Universities get notified of the students' grades at least the weekend before the official date they are released to students (which is this Thursday), so they can plan the admissions/places/clearing before the panic starts on Thursday morning.

I think PN means the English term for hose, not the American short form of pantyhose Wheezy ;)

And there was me thinking that it was the mention of PN in her swimsuit rather than the hose that had Wheezy ready to part with his cash. ;)

    Yay! Congratulations Josh. :beer::j:T:D

Hoping for good news on Thursday for all NP to whom results will be on their way.

I'm not sure if I'm more worried about my Y13 (who are absolutely amazing and should all have done brilliantly, so I'll be gutted if some of them have missed it by a bit) or my Y12 (who won't do nearly as well as Y13 but aren't expected to anyway).

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Re Americans and our so called common language.

An American woman stayed with me for a while when we were both in our twenties and working for the same company. One day we decided to go clothes shopping as she needed new trousers.

A voice shouted from the changing room (much to the shock of the shop workers):

"Viva, do you think these pants look tight around my f*nny?"

Sounds like an inspiration for an Irn Bru Advert. Like all such adverts, probably NSFW south of the Tweed.

Sounds promising gen, hope it's all resolved soon for you.

Cheers zag, I'm pretty optimistic about it. I think that this is only a precaution.

Thanks Viva - Kids will be wowed if they hear we are going to 'Orlando' :)

I have heard that when it first opened, people would take their very young kids to the Disney Store in Watford and tell them they were visiting Disneyworld. You're not one of those, are you?:;)

I hope you weren't one of those people who every time the M1 or the M25 are congested decide to come and gridlock our town...

Route of choice would be down the A5 from Dunstable. But satnav directed me down the M1 to M25 and then down the A1 from South Mimms.

PN That sounds ingenious (the basketball hoop fixing thing.)!

Sue That's brilliant :T Well done to Josh! I hope he's slowly coming to terms with the idea of going to uni this year after all :)

viva I keep meaning to say, about the "mid-life problem" you mentioned recently - I find red clover seems to help.

I started to write my post, then had to go and to something else and forgot all about it...hope I manage to post it!

    Yes of course it was.
If I'd been in charge I'd have made you put a strong eyelet alongside the wall fixing.... then feed a 0.5cm string through the eyelet and tie the end to the hoop. You then feed the string through the eyelet and pull the ring up. You then secure the string, freeing up both hands to finally fix the hoop to the wall.... and give you a safe way in the future to bring it down, or go up and adjust it again.
Why didn't you think of this method while assembling your Ebay bed??? :D

    Hooray for Josh!

Precautions like this are a good idea, but rather distressing. The alternative seems to be to ignore the symptoms and hope for the best. That's how come roughly a quarter of cancers are discovered in A and E, ie much too late. http://www.ncin.org.uk/view?rid=2174

On a personal note my PSA has gone up quite a lot, and as a result I recently had to have a digital examination. In case anyone is in any doubt, it wasn't done by computer and they weren't looking at my fingers. Very uncomfortable and undignified but the result was quite reassuring. PSA to be rechecked in a few months time.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
