Many years ago a friend of mine used to provide music/PA systems to small music venues and, among our group of friends, we'd occasionally accompany him as "road crew". One night we were at an American air base. I did ask one bloke for a fag.... (oops) - and the other two "road crew" that night were two blokes, who had a dance together at some point on the dancefloor. We were told, a bit later on that evening, that men do NOT, EVER, dance together. It wasn't a smooch, just two blokes dancing in the same area on the dance floor.
They're such an odd lot, those yanks.
I remember working in Manchester centre, with a broad Manc lad and a very prim and proper American lady consultant.
She was very pretty and he was trying to turn on the Manchester charm with her, such that it is.
He announced "I'm just popping out for a fag".
As he went out, I explained to her that it was okay; he wouldn't be long; because the gay village was not that far away!
The look of surprise on her face0 -

I'm afraid I did, and he planned a suitable revenge.
I've worked in both the North and the South, and I think people are a little more direct or blunt in conversation up North.
Things were expressed with more politeness down South.0 -
Re Americans and our so called common language.
An American woman stayed with me for a while when we were both in our twenties and working for the same company. One day we decided to go clothes shopping as she needed new trousers.
A voice shouted from the changing room (much to the shock of the shop workers):
"Viva, do you think these pants look tight around my f*nny?"Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Well that worked well, they phoned while I was on the approach road. So could go straight into the pick up zone for £2.50.
Journey home not so good, M1 south shut due to an accident.
I hope you weren't one of those people who every time the M1 or the M25 are congested decide to come and gridlock our town...mystic_trev wrote: »So that's sorted

Sun came out about 5ish here, and still out now - v pleasant evening weather.
I was at work and never look out the window but based on the solar output it was nice ish here until about 2 then pretty dull. We have had the drive done and I just spent an hour out in the drizzle putting up the basketball hoop, it was pretty heavy on the ground but 12 feet up a ladder it weighs a ton....vivatifosi wrote: »I've seen a really interesting MOOC that I may well take, this time on edX rather than Coursera. I always worry that if you think about how we really think you realise how illogical it is which is a but sadI might have just saved you an embarassing moment on any future travels you have to the states
e.g PN: "I'm just nipping out to the yard for a bit of fresh air, just me and my hose"
Cue gasps from your American friends
Darn, 75 minutes too late to do the fag jokesI think....0 -

Just happened to check UCAS track this morning (to check what grades were needed) and Josh's firm choice has changed from conditional to unconditional....actually happened on the 4th of this month. His insurance choice had changed to unconditional at the back end of last month, not that we had noticed as we hadn't looked on there for months.
Only problem now is that Josh was so convinced he would miss the target and had got it all planned in his head to stay on for another year to improve his grades (and his confidence) and now can't get his head around going off to uni, he is having a major confidence wobble and looks like a rabbit caught in headlights (albeit with a stupid grin on his face at other odd moments)We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Playing catchup here.
Sounds promising gen, hope it's all resolved soon for you. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
