The proposed new Asda here would be very close to a Home Bargains. Two miles, two shops, free parking..... they'd become my default "go to" destination. As it is, I've only been to HB 2x in the last year as it's not worth driving 2 miles on a speculative "see what they've got" trip - and I rarely travel along that road.
Just googled it - the Asda site is up for sale. So no Asda
Morrisons also pulled out of where they wanted to go.0 -
Where do I get the bloke to operate the bug bat?
Aldi have also applied for planning permission for their second store here too. We could do with an Asda instead, then 'Bingo' - we'd have the full set.
When I lived in a certain place Nikkster knows there were only two supermarkets; a Safeways and a Sainsburys in the centre of town, next door to each other, with no parking. Things must have improved immensely.
Had to drive to a new town on the M1 for most things back in the day.
Speaking of Aldi, they're spreading nearer to us, but still 5 miles away. No B&M or Home Bargains that I know of in our patch of London/north SurreyThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

An Aldi has opened up in thelast few weeks, near the marina where OH works. OH can walk to it and buy anything we run out of midweek. He used to go into waitrose on the way homebut only goes in about once a week now. He has also said a number of yachts are being at least partly provisioned from Aldi as he sees the carts being pulled along the pontoons. Today to do a weekly shop he drove there, it is quicker to walk but he could not carry it all back. The waitrose shopping was the grand total of £6.
Another MSe moment in the Spirit household this week was the use of a voucher!I bought a replacement magimix lid from espares.co The lid cost £25 but they included a voucher for £40 off Majestic wine when you bought a case for £100 or more. We had planned to order wine anyway so this was timely.
OH ordered online and yesterday Pouilly Fume and Cotes de Beaune were delivered. 8 bottles for £67.0 -

Well, neither of them are there any more! No idea where they would have been.
We have (in my town and the ones it's merging into):
2 x Sainsburys; 1x new Sainsbury's Local
2 x Tesco; + 1 each of Tesco Metro and Express in town centre
2 x Lidl
Aldi (with planning submitted for another)
Iceland (with another due to open out of town)
Waitrose
Farmfoods
Morrisons
They're the ones I'm aware of anyway... I visit most of them, some more often than others. Yet to venture to Farmfoods.
A mahoosive Asda is in the New Town.0 -

They were between the main north-south high street and the bus station. You've got tons of places now.

We have one medium sized Morrisons, one tiny Tesco, one even tinier M&S (their smallest main store anywhere), a largish Solar and a small Iceland.
We also have several Co ops but they are only small stores, some no bigger than a papershop. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

I've never been in a Farmfoods.
Iceland is about 8 miles away.
It's surprising how different each store is though. I went into another Lidl the other week (200 miles) and it had LOADS of stuff I've never seen, including packs of huge crab claws! Mine's rarely got bread, chips, milk, eggs by mid afternoon.
Within 1 mile I have....err nothing.
Closest is Morrisons at 3 miles away or a very small co op 2 miles away.We made it! Just over a mile away there's a big Asda, big Tesco, M&S, Farmfoods and a large and small Morries.
Spoilt rotten we are. Except for Iceland discounters like Aldi and Lidl they're all about 5 miles away or more. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Mini coop over the road open 7-11 every day, really useful to have when busy. Small shops can be really useful for yellow stickers too if your lucky to walk in at the right time! When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0

Been too busy working and having summer-fun to bother replying to many of the over-excited threads on this board ATM, but it does seem there's a lot of entertaining developments going on.
Suffice it to say it'll all be good in the end.....
And if it isn't all good, it isn't the end.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
