Quoting myself because no one passed an opinion!
Personally I would have been very put out if my parents had tried to arrange a family meal with or without a gf's parents on the day of my graduation. For me it was the last big uni night out - my parents came to the ceremony and the drinks reception afterwards for an hour or so, then I scarpered to the union.0 -

Not the same here. They have had their big night out. No one has anything planned that doesn't involve family.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. We will now find out if BBQ cooking is as difficult as the men would have us believe. OH said light the coals and I will be home to cook....then his flight was delayed.
Sounds typical of something that would happen when I'm BBQ'ing
What is the point in having a fan in the bedroom, when all it does it supercharge hot air around? Hoping to keep the windows open overnight, then close them first thing.💙💛 💔0 -
I think i would want to celebrate with my offspring in a relaxed manner and that it all becomes more complicated with doing it jointly with GF's parents, agreeing venue etc. and all the small talk.
agree with nikks on tactics, chat in the poste event drinks marquee then tootle off, unless son wants to be with GF.
TOP TIP : make sure you get some photo's of your son alone or just with family. A Friends son insisted his GF was included in all photos, when it ended shortly afterwards there were no graduation photos allowed to be displayed.
This is worth reading twice. My graduation photo is a very clever "improvement" of another photo.;)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I am sitting in something akin to the bat cave. Advice to close all windows and curtains being judiciously followed. Temperature indoors currently 25, which is not too bad. Heathrow has just set a July high temperature of 36.7.
Gen's probably reading this and thinking "winter".
37C is the point at which it starts getting warmish.
I generally the reckon the temperature shouldn't be hotter than me or cooler than my fridge so you're within the Range of Decency IMO.
The trouble is in the UK you've got no air con. It's ridiculous. Here we have air con on the buses, in the shops, pubs, restaurants. Even the shotgun shack that we rented when we first got here had air con!
Last time I went to London in summer it was 30C. No air con in HMV on Oxford St even. The pub we had the meetup at: no aircon. If global warming means more and more days like this you guys are going to have to get your act together, even if it just means a £500 split system in your living room.
One of these suckers on an outside wall would keep your living room or bedroom nice and cool:

I did a 200km ride once on a 40C day. I drank 8l of water plus about 2l of energy drinks.0 -
Holy cow.
Biggest thunderstorm in years around here has just woken me up.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Our house never needs air con, as I am sure you'll have remembered lots of old houses in France not needing.
Our sitting room and dining room in particular are beautiful this week.0 -
Need to negotiate with a corporate this morning for an idea.....
They're not so big in terms of company size, but for what we're thinking of doing, I'm sure we can potentially be VERY useful for each other.
Eagerly watching my phone for an answer to a message I sent last night in relation to what I posted about yesterday.💙💛 💔0 -
Thanks all!

I now have to acknowledge that only men can BBQ. Apparently spreading the coals out to equalise heat meant that they were never hot enough overall and allowing the marinade to drip onto the coals put some of them out.:(I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I've gone into silly protective mum mode.....Josh is going off to Barcelona with the school in two weeks and we had the meeting last night for the itinery, rules etc.
I was fine until the meeting but now I have got all anxious about my 'little' boy getting confused while he is away and ending up lost. Ok, some of it is because he does find the world confusing and he does have problems with understanding verbal communications, short term memory etc but still, he is almost blooming 19!
I never got this worried over James but then James was like me, he has an excellent sense of direction, is resourceful and more importantly, can understand what people are saying to him without a simplified explanation.
On the plus side, he is performing twice, once on the beach on a bandstand and once in a square in Barcelona itself which is apparently, a tourist attraction. It will be a great experience for him, not just the performing but also the very thing of going away on a school trip, his first ever (he has never been allowed to before by any of the schools because of his needs)
Expect me to be a nervous wreck in two weeks time......We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
