    I'm guessing a property?

If this is a payment to a firm of solicitors, the bank won't be worried about money laundering issues as they know that the solicitors have the obligation to check all that out.

I assumed it was the wife's new car. If so, I hope Hamish pays at least £100 of the total cost on a credit card.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Think it works if the total cost is over £100?

It works if the credit card part of the transaction is over £100. So if Hamish pays £100 deposit on his credit card and £49,900 on his debit card, the credit card company is on the hook for the entire £50,000 if the transaction goes pear shaped. It's a hard life being a banker.

You may be able to ring them in advance to let them know you're going t make the transaction to avoid this.
Yes, that's what I did for Wheezy Mazda and paying off remainder of mortgage, both on debit card just a quick call telling the bank you'll be making a payment for x amount to y and it went smooth both times.

I would think a minor delay. I would expect a curious security question, like how often do you receive statements or where did you last see your bank manager - something that couldn't be revealed by someone snooping.
Does anyone get those silly questions like 'you paid £5.66 on 12 June, can you tell us the payee?'.

    I HATE THIS!

They did it to me for the third time in nearly as many weeks on my birthday. Blocked an online payment as potentially fraudulent.

These questions get asked after I've logged into internet banking with my number, on my verified device, given my memorable details, verified my password to pay a new payee...

Then they decide it's fraudulent, ensuing phonecall which I then fail based on the fact that I don't know who took a direct debit for £3.32 a month ago.

So they then base more questions on my credit file, which I then fail as one question requires me to guess the credit limit of one of four credit cards, without telling me which one.

So then they make me find my driving license and read them my driver number.

One time they blocked my whole account because i didn't answer the phone to them when I was on the phone.... To them.

They did this three times to me. I went batsh1t at them on my birthday so they gave me £60 and have left me alone since then.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

    I have had better weeks.

I had a heart attack on Sunday and spent the week in hospital. Had angioplasty yesterday and 3 stents, it seems one of my grafts had blocked.

I had the mildest feeling in my chest on sunday, but knew it was odd and given my recent history was not waiting for it to gt worse. Dialled 111, Emergency ambulance arrived in minutes, no obvious signs of MI but a troponin test showed raised levels so It was confirmed.
    home this afternoon.

Will catch up on thread later.

OMG. Glad you are sorted. Take it easy.

I find the level of medical procedures quite amazing. That you can be back home and well enough to join us, just 5 days after a heart attack and a procedure yesterday is unbelievable.

Oh dearest woman, you ARE having a tough year! But, wow, you get great service and are a bloody good advert for medical care in this country.

    How do you feel now?
