If it's a large transaction could you use a credit card to increase your consumer protection rights?

Used a credit card for the deposit, so AIUI, entire purchase is covered under those rights. Though as it's a used car, suspect rights probably aren't very significant, and caveat emptor applies.

Yup, all covered AIUI. You probably have more rights from using the credit card than from the seller.

Just let the bank know that there's going to be a large transaction so it doesn't get blocked.

    Well done SC jr! :beer::j

As regards the credit card for purchases idea, I'm not sure it works for all items and all prices. I'd be tempted to try it anyway for the air miles, sorry, avios.

Think it works if the total cost is over £100?

Herts NPs and anyone else who may be interested... Amazon has started offering free tours of their fulfilment centres. They have two centres offering the tours in the UK and they do them every other Weds at the Herts one which is in Hemel Hempstead.

They started doing these in the States and they've proved so popular that they've rolled them out to the UK. Tours last about an hour.

The one in Hemel is huge and I think will be absolutely fascinating.

Thanks Viva, I can even pretend we are going for the kids education and not just cos I am the sort of geek who finds that stuff fascinating.

I never carry any cash, not even an emergency tenner, mostly because any cash I do have gets appropriated within days.

If I don't carry cash, I get the heebie jeebies and don't feel at all comfortable...granted the cash I am carrying is not a lot (I am not talking about a purse full of notes, more a few pounds) but even so, talk about panic stations.

It's only when I am going out for a meal or putting fuel in the car when I need the equivalent amount, the rest of the time, I use the card. My worse nightmare is putting fuel in the car and then for their card machine to be down, or my card not working for some reason (it takes a bit of a bashing with keep removing it from my purse) and for me to have no alternative way of paying for said fuel.

I did once stop myself from being so eek about it....then I went to a garage and the person in front of me was trying to pay by card and the machine had broken/gone down. I went back to being eeky after that....
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I've learnt that 2 fivers last twice as long as one tenner.

I've learnt that with 3 children, any money, be that in my purse or in my bank account, lasts next to no time!

Do any of the NP know if there's a limit to the size of debit card transactions?

Or an amount beyond which one's bank may get arsey about it?

I bought a car on a debit card once. I phoned the bank in advance and the transaction was pre authorised.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
