I've just cut the lawn for the first time this year, about 6 weeks too late.:o
We drove our old car for the first time in about 2/3 months as it is finally fixedish (we had to get the breakdown people out for a flat battery first of course). The sensible option is to get rid and hire should we ever need a second car but at the moment convenience is winning over financial sense. Perhaps it we put it on eBay and get a good offer that would help. I noticed today that sometime over the last few months while it has been sitting at various locations it has picked up a big dent in one door. People are not nice, if I damaged someone else's property I wouldn't just drive off.I think....0 -
The kids car is only used outside of term time, I'm sure that there must be someone somewhere who only needs another car in term time. WOuld be ideal for a car share, but insurance puts paid to that idea.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I think ours got its 4th cut on Saturday and it has been quite long on a couple of those, if we had left it till now then I am sure we would have to have used the strimmer.
I set the mower to its highest setting. I'll leave it a couple of days, then have another go at medium setting.
I'm buying a strimmer and a so-called silent shredder. Do you think the fact it's called silent will mean that I can use it for a few days then take it back on the basis that it can't really be silent, can it?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I have no idea how many times I have cut the grass already. Quite a few.
It turned out tea was fun. The history was in raptures about it all, And have sent most of the cakes back to be picnic fodder during their stay here and have mentioned pigeons will enjoy it once its stale.
I had forgotten what good fun finger sandwiches can be. Isn't odd how different a sandwich can be with no crust and in a tiny shape?0 -
Send them here! I have a week's solid work for them. Will provide unlimited beer in exchange, plus suitable appreciative noises from time to time.
They probably would as well! They are crazy enough to volunteer (multiple times) to help me.
You can't have them before he's made the railings for the front of my house though.
Edit: I'd come and help one weekend though if you wanted an enthusiastic novice. PN can provide a reference0 -

Ooh... interesting! If you go for it, I'd definitely be asking you for updates
Think I'll be non-grassing next year now, something like this might be easier than the millions of seed trays I was imagining.0 -

GP has suggested that I give up dairy and wheat separately for three weeks each. I am about to stop wheat, but wondered if I could get some ideas re alternatives to dairy.
I've used Tomor before and tolerated it well, anything else you would suggest? I use quite a lot of dairy... milk, cheese, yoghurt, butter, fromage frais... looking to find alternatives for as many as possible. Many thanks!
Is it dairy protien or lactose that is suspected. I I became lactose intolerant as a legacy of having Giardiasis, in my case the intolerance diminshed from very acute to being tolerant again over a period of about two years.
I tried a variety of plant based milks but personally did not like any of them. Did not want to try the enzyme tablets as I already felt overmedicated. I also learnt some tablets contain lactose( by the time I learnt this I was past the most acute initial phase, Ask your Pharmacist if you take regular meds)
Milk was much worse than cheese, and from the web I learnt that
aged dry cheeses had low lactose and to avoid the soft cheeses such as camembert, so that is what I did. I switched to mint tea, and stopped making white sauces and made a veg stock based gravy instead using olive oil to make the roux. we also moved to making all our own bread, not having butter on anything, making
pizza/focaccia spead with a tomato & basil sauce with toppings rather than flans/quiches.0 -
