Hi I have had a car accident 6 am this morning my car skidded because the road was wet and hit oncoming car and then hit the bollard both cars are a right off the road limit is 30mph I was doing 40mph I have had bruises and grazes the other driver is all well.
The police officer who bought me home said that he wants me to go to the police station this evening for questioning and if I have a solicitor bring him if I don't and need one then it can make things longer I asked why and he said because there might be prosecution.
I am really worried I have never been in a crash before what will the police do in the interview will i have to go to court.
Please someone help I am worried.

You'll just have to go through the process, if you didn't do anything wrong and your car was legal (tyres etc) then nothing can happen.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

They will take a statement and then a decision will be made whether to prosecute based on the opinion of the police after their investigation of what appears to have happened at the scene of the accident and on what you tell them.0 -
do not admit to doing 40 , or even 31 mph , take a solicitor or try go get one on legal aid thing (if its still going for car accidents)
let the solicitor talk for you , the police are fishing , do not admit to anything "anything you say may be used in evidence AGAINST you"0 -
I am sure the other driver is "all well"; after all you have just written off his motor because of your driving and he will have the hassle of getting a replacement car and loaded insurance premiums for the next 5 years or so. I bet he is chuffed to bits! (/sarc off)
Apologies if this is coming across as being a bit mean but I have had 2 cars written off by other drivers stupidity in the last three years). Bit of advice, if you are in the wrong (and by your previous post it appears that you are) man up and take responsibility for your actions. After all put yourself in the position of the driver you hit, how would YOU feel in this situation?0 -

My my what a wicked nasty car to do such a thing.
I would give it a good thrashing - a la John Cleese - if I were you.
I suspect this thread is a wind-up.
Sorry croyland87- but were you really so silly as to admit exceeding the speed limit - best to stay stumm - no comment is the correct answer to almost everything except confirming your name.0 -
Just to clarify - I meant 'no comment' to any questions at the scene of the accident.
You must give name and address and insurance details. Then you can say that you will not make any further comment until after you have sought legal advise.
After speaking to a solicitor the response might well be 'After speaking to my solicitor I have been advised to make no comment'.
Many many people give the police all the evidence they need to charge them with an offence, from their own mouths.0 -
I drove my car up the wrong driveway and hit a tree that we haven't got ...0

Some people need to get off their high horses, i'm betting everybody here has sped in a 30 zone! And driving at 40mph in wet doesn't mean you're being dangerous! Ops obviously made an error in judgement on this particular road and slightly unlucky to hit a bad patch and now paying the price.0

...driving at 40mph in wet doesn't mean you're being dangerous! ...
There will have been a combination of factors here, and we don't have enough information to judge. They could include:
Poorly maintained vehicle (eg. defective tyre)
Not driving to the condition of the road surface
Not driving to the weather conditions
Driver distraction (the most common cause of collisions)
Excessive speed for the situation
etc
The fact that the OP hit another car head on means that something serious has gone awry.
The main thing that concerns me is the outsourcing of responsibility 'my car skidded because the road was wet'. The primary responsibility of a driver is to drive safely within the constraints that present themselves. Those conditions can make 5mph too fast, or 95 mph perfectly OK.0
