That's why I said that really would be a 'hung' parliament. I did the same math. As in 284+31+9 = 324 which is really knife-edge.:)
Plus I guess UKIP wouldn't vote against a CON/LIB coalition in a confidence motion since they'd get the Euro referendum, under a LAB/LIB coalition they wouldn't.

I discovered that 99.9% of people will happily comply with the request to let you have sight of their register number. The odd one or two will decline. In my experience, the general demeanour of such refuseniks would be perfectly summed up by the phrase "obnoxious !!!!".:)

I'm surprised that so many people comply. Probably don't want the awkwardness of refusing someone who is holding a clipboard and trying to give the impression of being some sort of official. I've never been asked but would politely decline.

Also, if approached by a polling organisation to take part in an exit poll I'd lie about who I'd voted for just for my own amusement. It seems slightly pointless to release a poll when the real result is just a few hours away.

Which reminds me - I must watch the film "compliance", someone at work was raving about it...

Would that mean an addendum to the Fixed Term Parliament act to capture the adjustment date to allow a full fixed term to prevail, else would the November (re-)election still hold within the set 5 year period? i.e. The next one would be 7th May 2020/
I don't know; but it was Gus O'Donnell on the Andrew Neil lunch time show who said it, so I didn't question him!

So was I really. But there you go.

What better advertising is there for a market research company, than getting an exit poll right? Besides, the point would be that we can all go to bed after the exit poll is announced at 10pm.:)

People who do market research in the high street or chuggers probably say the same thing when people refuse them. ..

No, it's not that. It's not that the refuseniks 'politely decline'; they tell you to 'f^&* off'. They generally give every impression of being professional obnoxious !!!!s. That was just my experience. Your mileage may differ.

That's not what I thought you meant by "general demeanour"! It sounded like you were just assuming that from the way they said "no"!

That's all I do. They ask to see my card. I say "no" and walk in. Similar to what I say to chuggers and market researchers in the high street. Unless they're offering freebies.

No, by demeanour, I meant 'outward behaviour or bearing'. As in, they walked up to the polling station glowering with animosity to the world in general. :)

This can work the other way too - one time some really miserable looking woman almost blocked my path as I was walking into the polling station saying "card please". Trying to sound official, like "tickets please" on a train. :rotfl:

I asked if she was an election official. She said no. I said "then sorry you're not seeing my card" and walked round her and in. She hurled a mild insult in my direction. Not f^&* off but still obnoxious!

Doubtless she thought I was the obnoxious one for not complying like a sheep! :)

Why is not telling them "obnoxious"?

You may like pointless arguments, but I have no wish to get into your phone box.

    Don't disagree with me then.

Saying "no" is not an argument, it's a reply to a question. The only time it gets anywhere near an argument is when people don't seem to understand what "no" means. Or think they have some sort of God given right to see your card, or get you to sign up for their charity, or do their market research survey etc.

You carry on complying with requests for such things if you want to avoid an argument, or if you care whether some random stranger might regard you as "obnoxious" for saying no to their request. Or think you'll have no mates if you don't comply with what everyone else wants.
