But how do you/we/they know that the spam button has been hit?
A hundred people may have viewed the thread - doesn't necessarily mean that they have all hit the button.

Of course not, but the clue in my post was the use of the words "we get a clue".

At 3 or 4 in the morning, why would the few UK readers of this forum at that time decide to view a thread obviously written in Indonesian (or whatever) ... unless it was to press the Spam button?
It might be because they are indonesian and want some magic potion to help them with this, that, or the other , but hey! what's the chances ...

Incidentally, I've never seen it get as high as 100. ;)

Oh, also, why have some boards still not got a spam button??

Because the 'powers that be' choose to ignore the posts in which we point out where they have missed things?

e.g. the thread called No Spam Button (not explanatory enough?) back in January, here on this "Site Feedback" board.
Just checked - still no spam button added.

What I really don't understand is the point to all this. The spambot won't know that we're on to it,but what do the people who programmed it stand to gain when the posts are deleted on a quick and regular basis? Oh,also, why have some boards still not got a spam button??

These messages usually come from an infected computer, the owner of which probably doesn't even know that they have been sending them out, it is all automated, hence the name 'spambot'

Same as they hope to gain by spamming your e mail account with adverts for Viagra. Some will respond to "check out this super new web site"

How do I report today's SPAM on the Site Feedback thread ?

    There's no SPAM button.

I can't REPORT it as MSE threatened to suspend me if used REPORT again

It doesn't solve the spam posts.however VB has a 'One touch ban and clean up'.if the boardguides had access to this. They could delete all threads across all boards and ban the spammer. The tolerance can be set for how long joined, post number etc.

I agree- but do we have to endure today's SPAM until MSE Towers starts work on Monday ?

If they gave all the board guys access to the 'one touch'
They could clear spam from any section on the forum.
I (well less so these days) moderate on a forum and the moderating team being global the spammers are usually cleared out before most members see the posts.

Perhaps you should bring it to their attention with a specific thread ...

No, clearly a waste of time ... :(
... thread called No Spam Button here on this board already did that back in January.

And before anyone mentions that you should report such things via the Report Button, that doesn't seem to work either ...

And the 'blurb' does indicate that someone from MSE Towers actually reads the "Site Feedback" board.
I mean to say, what would be the point of it otherwise ...

Ah yes, right ... :(
