Why did you leave the letters at home when you went back to work?

If you're having trouble with the collect mail set up, you can go to any post office pay less than £30 for a year's redirection - maybe to your boyfriend's/best friend's place? Quick and easy fix.

I would also confront my mum - in this life your 'children' must learn to stand on their own two feet. My parents would never open my post (if I was away they might text/ring me to let me know something had arrived, if it looked ominous, I would then decide whether they should open it and read it to me, or if it can wait until I get home). My parents were of the opinion if I was adult enough to get into debt then I was adult enough to sort myself out.

While you're sorting it out as advised already, why not have a bit of fun with it? Mock up a doctor's letter confirming that, as suspected, you do have a terrible newly discovered (so not on Google!) genetic disease that can only have come from your mother, so you need to advise your female relatives to seek immediate treatment. Send her off to the doctor in a panic!

Or give her something so juicy that she won't be able to resist sharing about you - court dates for the robbery you attempted or drug related offences.

Or a simple envelope full of glitter, the really fine stuff that you just can't wash off your hands and face!

It may be childish but at least it'll be a little light relief for you while you stop it happening.

    https://www.royalmail.com/personal/receiving-mail/redirection

You can apply online to have your post redirected.

I think normally the service to collect your post directly from the Post Office is intended for businesses, rather than individuals, but if you contact Royal Mail directly and ask they may be able to offer that service to you.

Did you ever speak to your mum about the fact that she is invading your privacy in this way?

There are two issues here: one practical and one emotional.

On the practical side, you have had a lot of suggestions on how to redirect/pick up your email so it's not tampered with at home by your mum.

Emotionally, it seems that you are being drawn into a game and becoming increasingly upset. Like others, I don't understand why you don't pick up the letters that are addressed to you as soon as you see them. You leave them and your mum opens them, so you get upset, so she has the upper hand and is in control and you feel victimised. So, every time you see mail addressed to you - take it and take back control. I appreciate you're not always first to the mail, so that's when the practicalities set in - see suggestions that have been made.

Your mum wants to control you and your life. Why? Who knows. Right at this moment the why may not be the most important question. Why? Is a question for when you are no longer around that behaviour and have time to reflect. Right now, focus on HOW you manage what is going on so you get the outcome you want.

Simply arrange for mail redirection to your partner's house for now.

Save harder and move out as early as you can

Put together a mock letter from your local Police Station acknowledging your report of someone opening your post without permission and that this has been recorded as a crime with a crime reference number and assigned CID detective.

Include details of the associated 5 year prison sentence for Postal Theft and malicious infringement of Privacy. Detail that your post will now be monitored by the Police with them collecting a list of all post sent from the sorting office so that anything that goes missing can be recorded on the file and used as part of the impending prosecution.

See if that shakes things up a bit...

If you're seeing letters at lunchtime, can't you take them back to work with you?

    Good luck :)
