No problem. Bank card arrived today and switch is underway. Did it through Topcashback for 84 cash back and I will save quite a bit on account and overdraft fees over next 12 months.
Cheers for the update! And that's a good idea. Wish I'd gone through a cashback site. Le'sigh. Next time, I suppose!

When I made application normal telephone banking told me the status of my application.
You might also want to check your employer is not breaking the law in reference to breaks etc at work.

I rang but I couldn't get through. Unless there's another number somewhere that I missed? Unfortunately, I got in too late to call today as well.
As for the lack of breaks, that's completely my doing. I'd rather eat on the go than stay another hour after work. I get home at eight as it is! Seeing as it's Friday tomorrow, I might actually treat myself to a full hour's break. Thanks for the link though!

If you apply between certain times I think it was between 11pm - 6am week days you wouldn't get an instant decision.
I tried to apply the week before on a Thursday at a silly time 2AM or something and they didn't even let me fill in the application! I got a message, saying that the facility wasn't available at this time and to try again after 6AM! :rotfl:0 -

This one did take far longer to open and I received confirmation by post. I was surprised seeing that the FlexDirect was immediate. I am sure if you are patient you will hear from them soon.
Good luck.
Interesting to hear! I would have thought the Flex would have been quicker seeing as they had all the info on you. Thank you, I shall remain patient and hopefully get something in the post soon.
Thanks for letting me know how it worked out for you.

UPDATE
Never did get around to sorting it out as I was told I needed to speak to the account opening department that's usually open 9 - 5. I work those hours and nope, not a chance doing that during lunch.
Anyway, got a letter in the post today from Nationwide, telling me I'd been approved and that I needed to sign and date the letter and return it before they begin sending me the welcome pack, debit card, ect.
Just in case anyone was wondering and/or in a similar position.0 -

It might be something to do with the FlexDirect being an 'online' account in that you cannot operate it by branch (you get told off if you try and go in branch and pay in cash as I did!). Perhaps that is why they are processed quicker.
Good luck.

I have had terrible service from them recently. Daughter who has various savings accounts with them didnt need to prove who she was but it took them weeks to open a current account for her, In fact if I hadnt gotten the branch involved I think we would still be waiting 3 months later . Got email to say it was in motion and heard nothing else. All in all took 3 weeks ! I opened 2 new savings account with another bank we hadnt used so needed to prove who we were and we had accounts open and cards and books within 5 days yet Nationwide took weeks.I have never met a calorie yet I didn't like!!0
