Does anyone remember a special offer which was mentioned on the mse news letter about 6-7 years ago..ish for free prime membership for life? I went ahead and joined and have been enjoying free membership until a few days ago (at least I thought) when £79 was taken from my account, then to my horror I noticed it'd been taken last year also.
luckily I can't find any previous to that. so am I mistaken thinking it was free for life?0 -

Have never heard of a free Prime membership, never-mind for life!0 -
I totally disagree! It may do now but it didn't in 2014 when I did the free trial to find out more about what was on offer. Use Amazon very little, never watch films or play games.buy my reading glasses from Amazon, I'm 72 so need them, live in a rural area so odds and sods are easy to buy on line from Amazon .Buy the odd book, homeopathic remedy, socks or jacket and gardening tool. Amazon should watch who they take money from, they will be as bad as some charities. Just found out they have taken 2 lots of £79 from a seldom used bank account, in 2014 and 2015 daylight robbery! They must have noticed I have only bought a few small items from them, no films or whatever else they do. You must work for Amazon to suggest they have any notices up about taking money from accounts automatically. I think they should be under an obligation to ensure customers aren't missold. A customer like myself who buys personal items only and doesn't subscribe to anything else does not need Amazon Prime and is being ripped off if they are sold it automatically after a trial period. A months trial is a learning experience!0

Feel free to read a thread from 2008. If I'm honest, I expect better from someone your age.

And what did you learn from your month trial?forestlands wrote: »I totally disagree! It may do now but it didn't in 2014 when I did the free trial to find out more about what was on offer. To cancel any subscription before the end of the trial period, I hope.

Yeah, that old chestnut.0 -
You expect something better than what? The post you referred to said check your bank statement! The money was taken from an old account that has not been used regularly since 2008 when I transferred everything over to my main account. A small amount was left in the account, it is not used to make payment to Amazon. Your point is?
My point is automatic taking of payments including rolling contracts used by some insurance companies should be outlawed! Only the setting up of Direct Debits or Standing Orders should allow money to be taken from a persons account on a regular basis. Setting up annual payments for Amazon Prime is entering into a contract which should be agreed by both parties before regular payments are taken! I subscribe to delivery saver at Tesco and every year I'm asked if I want to renew!
Amazon does a great service in providing on line shopping, esp. for people like myself who live alone and are a long way from any shops. I have been delighted with the on line shopping service it provides.0 -
I'm most surprised at some of the nasty, presumptive, comments! It was 3 years ago that I tried Amazon Prime there was no mention of automatic payment being take let alone annual payments which have been taken. For the small amount of shopping I did on Amazon, happy to wait 2 or 3 days for delivery, payment to a scheme to get free and fast delivery would not be worth while!0

And accusing people of working for Amazon because they didn't agree with you isn't nasty? And isn't presumptive?forestlands wrote: »I'm most surprised at some of the nasty, presumptive, comments!
You admit you signed up for the free trial.forestlands wrote: »It was 3 years ago that I tried Amazon Prime there was no mention of automatic payment being take let alone annual payments which have been taken. Did you cancel it before the end of the trial or did you forget?
If you didn't cancel, why would you think you wouldn't be charged?
You say "there was no mention of automatic payment being take let alone annual payments which have been taken".
Did you read all the T&Cs?0 -
