Gas Bill jumped £200? is it faulty?

I have been reading this thread and feel the need to step in.
In your last post you said about the savings.
There is no way you know that you will save £944.37 per year by going to new supplier. You are basing your next 12 months on a prediction as you do not really have a full year real set of readings to be able to make the judgement clearly.
But it does not also mean you will be paying an extra £944.37 by staying at your present supplier because of the same reasons as above.
And do not forget the comparison site wants you to move as they get a big fat commission from the energy supplier for signing you on.
But as other posters have said you need to so something about it.
Just get of the fence and do it !!!!!!!!
I got off my fence and cut my gas bill by a third by moving to a gas company which fitted my circumstances.
So theres no way of knowing if I will be paying less if I move to this other company I have just written about then? Its just a total guess and just hope for the best and take the chance?0 -
Whats so hard to understand. if it were banana's, you'd multiply the number of bananas you used in the last 12 months by the cost of a banana at shop a and compare it to shop b. The comparison sites do that calculation for you, provided you put some reasonable assumptions of how many bananas you intend to eat over the next 12 months, you'll get an accurate savings figure. If you don't know the number of bananas you used, you can put in the amount you paid in the last 12 months, and name the shop you used. If you don't know the answer to either, you can use the average UK banana consumption figures as a guide.
Your previous and future annual capacity for bananas is unknown to us and them, all you've told us is how much you eat since 26/11, so it's a guess, all we can glean is that you eat a lot of bananas in winter, but the fact you are paying 50% more than I do for each banana suggests that you'll make a considerable saving if you move to any of the top 20 cheapest banana suppliers which are all listed on uswitch
so the questions is how many apples and how many bananas have you eaten in the last 365 days, and how did you choose your current banana shop.
I know exactly how many banana's and apples I use, as I have a banana meter, and keep all my banana invoices.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -

Well I lived in a flat before moving into my current house in the summer and switched suppliers between that time, so hard to figure out what I have used in last 365 days.
My Current TARIFF is - 4.580 GAS
The new company is offering
Unit rate 2.997p per kWh
Tariff comparison rate (TCR) 3.54p per kWh
Which of the two tariffs are better and is there a big difference and would the difference make a good saving?0 -
you've only quoted one tcr, two figures are required for a comparison
2.997 is clearly cheaper than 4.58, but standing charge and consumption needs to be added into the equation, as does electricity, hence the introduction of tcr's
put 3300 kwh elec and 13500 kwh gas into the uswitch calculator and see, then read the thermostat manual and sort out why you are using so much gas, and switch to energy saving or LED bulbs.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -
If you mention British Gas by name it may help. If you mention the comparison site it may help. Most sites when asking for a monthly amount will assume that that is averaged over the year - if you enter a winter bill their results will be bonkers (as appears to have happened with you.)
Stop writing 'this company' 'that company' - it is tiresome to read and unnecessarily obfuscating. Just name suppliers and sites.
You have to take a stab at guessing an annual usage. And use that as a base for looking at prices of alternative tariffs.
The difference in cost may be a couple or few hundred pounds - it is not going to be a thousand pounds.0 -
With only that information they can not give you an accurate annual consumption or savings figure, the only accurate way of doing it is to use an annual kWh figure. That said you are on about the most expensive fixed tariff out there so moving is definitely the way to go. Input your personal projection figures (in kWh) into one of the comparison web sites, I prefer EnergyHelpLine, and see how it looks on there. Speaking to them on the phone just leads to confusion and a bit of pressure to switch to one they get a commission for, they are not 100% impartial - take Martin's "cheaper than the cheapest" switch, although cheap it is not the cheapest in all cases. When quoting figures please tell us the supplier and tariffs you are using and comparing to, there is no need to keep it a secret.........
I contacted that impartial energy comparison place and told them what I have spent in the last 8 weeks and they said I can get a deal with another gas company ....................

You have been given all the information and help we can give you!
Put those figures (however you calculated them) in to a comparison site...
The Sainsburys Energy tariff still comes up as being 25% cheaper than the tarrif you are on ( even based on those figures), so switch to that or which ever company takes your fancy...
If you want to avoid the British Gas cancellation penalty follow my guide on the previous page. It is up to you.
This thread did not need to go on for more that three pages as you have been given the same advice by myself and multiple other posters repeatedly. I would not normally write this but nothing more needs to be said in my opinion....

apart from....
they are not your annual usage figures, unless you plan to living in spain for 9 months of the year. posts 58 and 59 bear no relation to any usage quoted in the rest of the thread.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0
