I had to laugh.., my ex used to chat with one of the parents of a child at my younger son's school.., not my sort of person at all. He got the idea to buy the book from her apparently for a prezzie for me. I'm into sci fi, History, non fiction, not a book like that lol. Not a good b'day present ha ha. I also am not the sub sort in that sense.
I shant say the words 'ex' and 'why' together again lol
If the OP isn't comfortable with going to see the movie.., he just isn't. I wouldn't be either. To suggest he should go in the hopes of adding another knotch to his belt causes me to feel a lot of pity for the suggesters friends. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Come on folks, it's KINGSLAYER!
Is anyone taking this thread seriously, really?
Nevertheless, he is harmless enough.... so.....
FWIW, I thought the book was utter pants. Badly written, certain phrases repeated over and over, rubbish storyline, bad ending, poor continuity, boring as heck.
I wouldn't go to see this pile of garbage if you paid me. So I have no idea why your 'girlfriend' wants to see it Kingslayer.
I couldn't finish the first book - it was terrible and I disliked the characters. But a lot of my friends (mums aged around 40) are madly in love with Mr Gray, and also fancy the actor playing him. Fair enough, as long as they don't expect me to go with them
I'm not a book snob - I read the Twilight books and they were awful too. I can't imagine my husband going to the cinema with me to watch a Twilight film :rotfl:0 -
Just go... 90 minutes of your idea of hell for 2.5 mins of heaven afterwards, you may even get to watch your !!!!!! with her (lucky girl) and you can brag to all your mates that you didn't get "friend zoned"...Come on sucker lick my battery0

Go and enjoy the film and take some tips about being more 'dominating' in bed.
No, don't. In this country, using coercion to manipulate a person into allowing sexual acts that they are genuinely uncomfortable with isn't a positive thing. I've got several friends who are in the BDSM lifestyle, and they are all furious about the portryal of it in the book. The character is not a dominant, he is a manipulative psychopath.
Several readers have said to me that he changes in the end. In encouraging readers to think that if you put up with control freaks who try to separate you from your friends, demand control over you, stalk you and generally emotionally blackmail you, they will eventually become better people, EL James is recommending acceptance of abuse. She should be forced to work in a domestic violence shelter for several months to see what those kind of people actually do. It isn't 'become better people'.
And the Lego trailer is so much better. I'd refuse to see the flm on the grounds that it is likely to be utter crap. Suggest a home cooked meal and a DVD of The Postman always Rings Twice or Body Heat. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Steaming pile of crap. :rotfl:carmina_piranha wrote: »I couldn't finish the first book - it was terrible and I disliked the characters. Oh no Carmina, I'm not a book snob, I will read anything! Jackie Collins, Twilight, most things really. But 50 Shades was DIRE. With a capital D.
I think Mr Gray sounds like a screwed up waste of space, and hell would freeze over before I would tolerate that treatment from a man (that Ana Steele tolerated.) And I think the actor playing him is a bit weird looking to be honest. :cool:0 -
After reading about the film being criticised for glorifying abuse to women, i'm not really sure I would feel comfortable watching it. Even when I have watched !!!!!!, i tend to avoid the BDSM !!!!!! or anything similar to it, such spitting, choking etc.
Thankfully, i have decided to avoid !!!!!! altogether and it's been about 2 weeks since i watched any at all. !!!!!! is evil and really does mess with your brain, and I did also find myself objectifying women a lot after watching the stuff.0 -
