Would you or do you wash........

  • We aren't grebby at all, but I don't know how some of you people manage this washing load, especially when you are talking about replacing towels everyday! We certainly couldn't, I work full time and my wife is stay at home mum to DS.

Bath towels get washed after a couple of weeks (you only use them when you are clean?!), bath mats the same, or when DS decides to wee on them when being transferred into the bath :rotfl:

Bed sheets every fortnight, or if we can't remember when we did them last or fancy a fresh bed

I've been known to wear a pair of jeans for a month, but if you think about it they are only on for 4 hours a day tops (when I get in from work), I have a dirty pair for walking the dog in.

T shirts, depending on the pit sniff test can go for a good 4 days, jumpers and hoodies used to last a month but now with the baby snotting and slimy hands they are variable.

Phew, I thought I was the only one for a minute there...
  • I have a few issues with cleanliness in that I am an OCD tidiness person who likes to live in a version of Downton Abbey but who does not have the staff. In fact I AM the staff.

However, since I have retired I have the time to indulge my ridiculously high standards. I clean my house from top to bottom every week and all the bedding and towels are washed likewise. Every scrap of clothing I wear every day except my jeans goes in the wash (but only the 30 degree quick wash) and the tops and cardigans ironed. I iron two shirts a day for my OH and DS.

To be honest I like to have a schedule to follow and I find cleaning and ironing relaxes me, especially as I listen to Radio Four 'catchup' as I work. I love living in a home which is clean and light.
  • We wash our bedding when we think it needs it. We don't get ill very often and are still alive, so it can't do us any harm. We have plenty of baths/showers so as long as we don't smell funny to anyone, what's the problem? I mean, my grandma comes from generation of people who only have a bath once or twice a week and as she is now in her 90s and fully healthy and independent it's clearly not doing her any harm :)

I wash bedding and bath towels weekly, but duvet covers 3 weekly. Hand towels and teatowels when they look grubby, so that varies greatly. Pants and socks obviously daily, but bras more often. As for outer clothing - when they don't look clean or don't pass the sniff test! In the summer months I'll go through my wardrobe and wash everything that hasn't seen a washing machine during the winter. I don't use anti-bacterial cleaners except on food preparation surfaces, or if someone in the family has got a contagious illness, then I'll disinfect door handles and suchlike regularly until they're better.

Bath Towels-Every day after 1 use
Hand Towels-Every day after 1 use
Face towels-Every day after 1 use
(Everyone in the family has their own sets of towels and flannels and then there are spares for when family visit)
    All clothing-after 1 wear
Flannels and Bath Mats-every 2 or 3 uses
    Underwear and Socks-after 1 wear
Bedding-2-3 weeks in Winter and Every week in Summer
Going Out Clothes-after 1 wear (dry clean only clothes washed on gentle 30 degree wash and low tumble dry and look dry cleaned, but smell fresh instead of dry cleaning chemical fluid)

Just wondering why you wash towels after 1 use but not flannels?
    :hello:

I've read this in its entirety and have been very interested. Just shows how different we can be.

I'm not one of the "wash it every day" folk, with one exception, and the number of posters who don't do this surprises me. I always wash bras after one wear. I suspect this may be because I grew up in a hot climate. I also wash knickers after one wear, of course.

I have read somewhere that one need not use soap when showering/batheing on body areas that do not normally perspire. So I use basic soap on my face, neck, erm, bust area, under my arms, behind my knees and nether regions. I use water only and a rub for other areas. Like another poster, my hair is coloured, and thus dry, so I wash it twice a week, more of course in summer, when my thick hair can make my scalp perspire.

I don't use special anti-bac cleaning products, mostly just elbow grease and a basic spray cleaner for the bathroom, washing up liquid in good hot water in the kitchen.

Regarding bedding, I have an added "problem" (which I don't see as a problem). My little dog was taught by Hearing Dogs for Deaf People to hop up to the tiniest corner of the bottom of the bed to be ready to let me know when the alarm goes off (she is not tall enough to signal this from the floor). She doesn't work as an HD for me but loves letting me know when the alarm rings. She is a very clean dog though and has a professional bath fairly frequently.

    Each to his/her own...

  • Wow, it's no wonder this country uses so much water and detergent. If you really must wash almost clean things, like single use towels, how about just putting them in the machine on rinse? That plus a good blow on the line will refresh the item, no heat or detergent needed.
In fact, with these almost clean items that are going through the wash, no detergent at all is needed, the washing action of the machine will do the job.
Deal with things as they are, not as they should be.
  • Shower every day. Change bedding when I have time. Knickers and socks changed every day. Clothes washed when a little grubby or have worn a few times. Washing clothes too often actually ruins them - they fade, shrink or lose their shape in time.

Use soap in shower and apart from shampoo and conditioner I use no other products.

It is well documented that we need some bacteria to stay healthy and build up resistant. I very rarely catch infections except maybe the odd cold once a year.

We are just too obsessed with cleanliness nowadays.

Bedding every 2 weeks unless we've had a trip to the beach, sand gets EVERYWHERE!
Towels - get used twice and then washed, hand towels once - twice a week
    Clean socks and knickers daily
Bra gets worn 3 times before going in the wash
    Pjs get worn twice
    Tops - once
Jeans - 3 times ish unless dirty
Coats - every couple of weeks unless dirty

Oh anti bac hand wash but that's about it, my mum on the other hand buys anti bac everything! She's 70 so it's kind of the other way about with us :)
