I rarely wash my face.:eek::eek::eek: I hear you say. Well since getting soap in my eyes I stopped as a small child. Was I blessed with good skin or is it just never used soap to remove natural oils who knows, but I have never had spots. I have always prefered to drink water before anything else, but have never used anything other than make up remover pads on eyes and just reapplied foundation the following day. Now I rarely wear more than eyeliner and lippy. My face gets wet when washing my hair or is splashed with water or wiped with a cold wet flannel sometimes in the summer and thats it. Obviously the rest of my body sees soap and water daily.
Perhaps some may cringe at this confession, but my skin is fine and often people think I'm younger so maybe avoiding the chemicals and product pushers has paid off:D

I'm totally the same with face washing. I feel my face gets washed in the shower anyway and I use Makeup remover.
My skin is also really good and I look younger than my age (though am only in 20s anyway!).
  • I wash my bedding and towels three times a week and put disenfectant in the machine in addition to the detergent. Clothes unless it's a jumper or something that has been worn over a t shirt is washed after one wear. As a child we had the weekly bath etc but times change. :)

I wash bedding every 2-3 weeks, towels are changed weekly except in the kitchen where there's a new one out every second day. Clothes changed every 2-3 days as we spend most of our time in uniform - that's changed every day except trousers as work is mean about dishing those out for some reason. I hate the fact that a bra is necessary, and it's a once a week wash but change into fresh socks and underoos daily. Both of us are sensitive to cleaning chemicals - we use ecologically-friendly detergents and nothing gets washed at above 40.

I have extremely fierce rosacea which means I cold-shower briefly once every 2-3 days, and never use water on my face.Hair is washed twice weekly. I also avoid SLSwhere possible and don't shave or do any sort of hair removal.

I do things a little differently to my (sort of houseproud) mum but she never complains or mentions that we have any sort of bad smell (and believe me she would and the words would not be sweetened!)

I'm intolerant of wheat, citrus, grapes, grape products and dried vine fruits, tomato, and beetroot, and I am also somewhat caffeine sensitive.
  • To those of you who wash... a lot... how do you get it all dry? :D Surely you must have tumbledryers running constantly? Maybe in the summer it is easier to get it dry outside, but currently I have one clotheshorse indoors and that has to do for every wash load. Sheets and towels get thrown over the upstairs banister when space is short, but generally my washing is dictated by what I can get dry without too much of a backlog. Currently, that's no more than 4-5 washes a week, and sheets and bath towels are less of a priority than uniforms, underwear and tea towels.

Just wondering why you wash towels after 1 use but not flannels?

They are hand washed with soap after every use. Put in the washing machine after every 2-3 uses

Before I found out that my allergies were dust mites I would only wash bedding about this much too. We sit on our couches nearly as much (well in my house we do) and were not washing them all the time.

I can't believe some people was their coats so much. I never wash mine unless it's got dirt on it usually if it's been dropped on the floor outside or I've slipped or something. I do tend to wear clothes under my coat though so maybe that's why others wash theirs more often. ;)

Coats gets washed that much here because my kids are filthy little animals and think nothing of rolling about on the ground at every opportunity given! We also have a pooch who loves to jump on you when out for walks in muddy places. It's a conspiracy I tell thee!

  • Further to the frequency of washing a bra, how long do you keep a bra? I remember the lingerie dept at Selfridges claiming that you should get rid of a bra after 3 months. I'm afraid I've got several favourites that are several years old!

My boyfriend reckons that I'm slightly obsessive about things having to be clean and, having read through this, it looks like he might be right (not that I'll ever admit that to him...), although thankfully there are people who would consider my routine to be unclean so I don't feel too bad.

Bedding and towels are washed weekly but the majority of my clothes are washed after every wear, even if I've only worn them for an evening, and I would never consider wearing a bra more than once without washing it.

Jeans and skirts I'll generally wear 2-3 times before washing and I'll wear jumpers/cardigans twice as long as they've been worn over something else.

I know that it's not like I'm dirty (I bath/shower at least once a day) and therefore I'm very unlikely to make my clothes dirty after one wear but they're not clean anymore either and I can't bear putting on unclean clothes.

Very interesting to see what everyone else does, and that I'm not alone in refusing to wash clothes that I've only worn once :)

    I'm with you :)
2 weeks for bedding ideally, but it doesn't always happen :D
2 weeks is what I was taught in domestic science class at school.

When I take off outer clothes (tops, bottoms, jumpers etc), I only put them in the wash if they either look or smell grubby, if they're clean enough to be worn again, I have a special drawer that I put this stuff in and go to it first when getting dressed so that the stuff gets worn until it needs washing. I find my clothes last much longer this way.

With bras, I have my everyday T-shirt type bras and I rotate 2 for a week or so before washing. Then I have a few 'posh' bras that I wear when I'm going out, these only get worn for a few hours so they go in the special drawer and get worn again a few times. I change knickers and socks/tights everyday.

I don't wear jeans, but husband wears one pair all day every day (to work too) for a week and then they get washed.

Coats & jackets get washed once a year - the winter stuff in the spring before storing away etc.

I have a 'big pampering bath' once a week (my time! :) ), around two quick showers a week on top of that (usually if I'm going out in the evening) and just a sink wash (or 'Face, Feet and Forks' as my nan used to say :D) every day.

My hair is coloured (and therefore dry) so I only wash it once a week, or twice if it gets specially dirty or I'm going out in the evening.

I don't use ant anti-bac soap - the ingredients used to make ordinary soap are naturally anti-bacterial anyway so I see that as a big con. I keep a bottle of zo-flora handy for when there's a definite need for extra disinfecting (not often).

Me and husband have a bath towel each which stay on the radiator rack in the bathroom for around a week or so before being swapped - as someone else said, you only use them when you're the cleanest you're ever going to be - they get wet, not dirty.QUOTE]

This sounds exactly like me!!! I was getting worried when I was reading the other replies!

Bedding is washed every 2 weeks unless again I forget. Underwear daily. Towels once a week (I only was my hair once a week, possibly twice if looking a bit too mucky), I dont wash my face at all unless I am washing my hair (nealy 30, no wrinkles and no spots. I always get commented on how nice my skin looks. I also don't wear makeup unless it's a night out).

I usually wear t-shirts only once as I do sweat alot but I do the sniff test. Jumpers/ fleeses possibly once a week/2 weeks depending on how dirty they are. Jeans once a week (usually wear the same pair to work every day) and I have a pair of house pj bottoms I wear all week in the evenings.

    Pjs once a week.

I also have a draw where I put clothes that aren't quite ready to wash and I also have going out jeans/bras etc that I will wear again for a few more "going outs" before they get washed.

bedding, towels and knickers/socks get washed at 60 and usually tumble dried (I have an allergy to dustmites and pollen so cannot line dry) and everything else on 40. I usually use half the recommended dosage of wash powder too.

I do wipe down with antibacterial wipes once a week and steam the floors probably once every 2 weeks (i live by myself but do have a cat). I use supermarket cleaning products at the moment as I am trying to use up my stocks but hoping to go natural products (vinegar/bicarb) when I have run out.
I do believe that we need a certain amount of germs in our lives so we build up a good immune system. (however I do hold my hands up and admit that I should dust ALOT more then I do!)

Very interesting to see the varying answers on here!

I just splash cold water on my face, don't really wash it. Bra's every week, bedding 2-3 weeks, OH's tops, every time he wears them as he always slops! Underwear and socks every day.

I think a lot of the over washing is because its so much easier to wash your clothes and get them dry than it was years ago. If you had to go to a river and bash your clothes on a rock i bet the washing would be less often!!
