Of course - cut down to 1500 calories (3 Mars Bars or a whole range of protein/veggies/salads) and see whether what type of food you're eating affects how well you do in losing weight.:rotfl:

I think it really is just calories. The trouble is that some are burned off quicker leaving you hungry again - and so if you had a mars-bar for each meal you'd probably be snacking again later in the day.

I think the best way to lose weight is to try something like the 5:2 and also to try and eliminate processed foods (like cake, crisps, sweets, pastries, pies etc), and to cut back on alcohol and sugary drinks like coke and fruit juice.

    I think we agree.

What you eat affects what gut bacteria you have.

The different kinds of gut bacteria send different messages to your brain, telling you whether you're full or not.

The way your body reacts to a high sugar meal is quite different to how it deals with a fatty or protein-rich meal.

If you don't control the types of food you eat, you will make it much harder to stick to a calorie reduced diet.

I have never tried this ..But am pretty convinced if you don't mind the discomfort of the process ..Something like Rabbit Starvation would be a pretty sure fire way of getting rid of fat.

It is simple really ..cut out carbs and fats ..and eat really lean meats ..something like rabbit or chicken breast .

Your body will scream out for fat or carbs ..But if you can use these feelings as a sign it is using body fat to digest the protein ..In a sense that craving is the body telling you it is burning body fat ..unfortunately burning muscle too.

I don't know how long the weight loss would last because as soon as you went back to your old diet you will put the weight back on ... As the reason you are your weight now is due to your present diet.

If you find it hard to change your diet ..Then you wil find it hard to lose weight ..I eat loads of vegetables now ..replaced probably 3/4 of the carbs I used to eat with cabbage , cauliflower etc ..
Sunday Dinner now has lots of cauliflower cheese but no roast potatoes or Yorkshire pudding.

I changed from low carb to high nutrient .. But that is because I think after achieving weight loss ..perhaps your diet should be seen as more than just petrol for an engine and a solution of burning lean is not an answer for health and well being.

Here we go. The NHS healthy weight chart.

    http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/healthy-living/Pages/height-weight-chart.aspx

5 ft 7 (me) and 10 stone (me) - smack bang in the middle of HEALTHY. (The yellow section.)

5 ft 6 and 8 stone is clearly in the underweight section. (The white section.)

    Nuff said.

If you put the figures into a chart that takes into account frame size Mrs G's weight falls into the "Desirable" band

    I'd agree with that.

(7 stone 6 is the lower limit.)

    So is getting fat ..

I just explained an extreme option ..That I am pretty sure would work as lots of trappers who ate like this a hundred years or so ago found had a dramatic effect .. If you want to slow down the effect eat fat with the meat ..That would be a gaucho diet ..and I reckon most gauchos are healthier than either of us.

    Disagree.

And I would seriously question the ethics and morals of any health professional, dietician, or doctor, that says that a woman of 5 ft 6 who weighs just 8 stone is at a healthy weight. It is not a healthy weight for that height. It's too low.

My friend's daughter is 5 ft 7, and dropped from 12 stone to 8 stone 4, and the doctor told her she was in the 'underweight' zone, and if she loses anymore, she will be in danger of losing muscle. He said if she drops below 8 stone, he will refer her to a counsellor who specialises in eating disorders, because she believed she needed to lose more, and that she needed to get to seven and a half stone!

She has actually balanced out now at a healthy and trim 9 stone 2, and is a size 8 to 10. Under 8 and a half stone, her size 8s were loose.

No way in a million month of Sundays can you - or anyone else - tell me that 8 stone is a healthy weight for a woman who is 5 ft 6.

If the woman is happy with that, then that is her prerogative, but 8 stone is too low a weight for a woman of 5 ft 6, no matter what size her 'frame' is.

Our bodies have to get rid of alcohol before burning fat so anyone wanting to lose weight, it makes massive sense to ditch alcohol.

Definitely eliminate processed foods, if you can't read something on a label don't buy it, avoid low fat products (I know some slimming companies say the opposite, but in order to replace the taste when fat is removed, sugar or something similar to sugar is added back in).

There's really no such thing as toning up or toning when it comes to fitness, its just a generic term that's used, what people are really doing is building muscle.

Strength training as well as HIIT type training is extremely beneficial, it helps bone health. Lift weights and lift heavy weights, not do 0000s of reps with 2kg weights.

Any exercise is better than nothing, but weight training a few times a week, plus HIIT, plus a clean diet, Id be surprised if people didn't get results with that.

One girl who does my fitness classes (HIIT, boxercise and circuits) has gone from 11 stones 7 last summer to 9 stones 12. Shes just worked hard in classes and made some changes to her diet.

I also know that some slimming companies allow people to eat syns or points and these points are made up of treats, but to be honest with you, allowing people small amounts daily of what probably caused them to gain the weight in the first place, isn't the best idea as far as Im concerned.

If people eat a healthy diet and train, they can allow for the occasional treat anyway. What worked for me was a diet along Paleo principles, strength training 3 times a week, HIIT classes and boxing classes.

I was just over 25kgs heavier 18 months ago and I can honestly say I feel better, my skin is better, I feel much better for cutting down on alcohol and I don't crave junk food.

As for weight loss, sometimes people lose inches and not weight. I did a bootcamp last summer, worked hard 2 times a week, ate clean, did other classes, saw no movement on the scales, but lost 14 inches all over and dropped a dress size.

How you look at a weight when you exercise might be very different how you'll look at the same weight when you don't.

My mum is 8 stones 10 and shes five foot 3 and she's tiny. She struggles to keep weight on, when she goes through stress and shes had a stressful few years, she struggles to eat. She doesn't look unhealthy at 8 stones 10, but she looks very very slim, shes always been slim, in her 20s she was 7 and a half stones, that was just her weight. Shes been heavier, she was around 9 and a half about 5 years ago, but lost some weight, way too much and she's never managed to get back up to 9 and a half.

Me, even at just over 9 stones (which Im certainly not at the moment), I look curvy, we have different body types. Actually, the girl I was talking about earlier who does my classes is 5 foot 6 and currently 9 stones 6, to me, she looks very slim at that weight. Not unhealthy, just slim.

White (refined) carbs can leave you very hungry after a short time, its not so much about them being burned off quicker, insulin levels will rise and in a couple of hours you'll probably be hungry again.

Aspartame is also nasty, avoid diet drinks like the plague. Something a lot of people struggle with.
