Rattle lid with nose till lid falls off. Bark at it. Repeat. A lot.
Ditto the fireguard. Poker. Toasting fork. Wine rack. Anything else that makes a noise. And a few things that don't. If I lose the lid, he chucks coal round the place. Or runs off with the logs.

All for attention. Today, I am just not in the mood for his shenanigans.

Edit - hello ChrisJJ and welcome. Do you have biscuits by any chance? Hobnobs a bonus.

    He is wonderfully cute.
In our house if they have had a good walk we call that ' need a bone ' behaviour. They get something to occupy them for a long while that's chewable.

To be fair, he has had a bit of a neglected week with Poorly Relative etc and me not feeling great. But when we came in from a long walk and he walked straight over and started rattling I could cheerfully have done him a mischief. Little sh1te.
I don't know what to give him that's safely chewable for a power chewer. He doesn't get bones because I worry about biting big lumps off and blockages. Ditto rawhide. And I've given up on stuffed kongs because he kills it in a couple of hours and I can't afford to replace them. All he has is a nylabone that he gets bored with. Any other suggestions appreciated.

Ours are raw fed so get bones. Maybe worth finding a raw feeding owner of a power chewer to see how 'you guys' do introductions. Might take a few afternoons of you holding it with him. ( I had to do that with big dog) and some pretty big bones. For me with big dog it was getting bones big enough she didn't try to swallow on big lumps too, ( extremely greedy eater and so huge) but we got there. She did love her bones! It would keep her busy for hours, longer than either of the others. It does feel a bit revolting slinging out rib cages and pigs feet and so on, but it keeps them really out of mischief.
Dogs like big dog have no interest in toys unless they are having phantom pregnancies usually, after destructive puppy phase. So keeping them stimulated is bones or lifestyle or training!

Good luck elsien, if bones aren't right for you I'm sure you'll figure something out. You remained me we had defrosted some marrow bones and so our have just been given them for the afternoon. :D

I have looked into volunteering around Xmas - never seems to be anything in my area unfortunately. But i do look occasionally.

Very interesting post :) - I'll respond further to this later today as there are some interesting points.
What came first, the music or the misery?
Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?

I think the coddling and Christmas is a dream for a lot of people.....even those with others in their lives. :(. Christmas ( and other festivals etc ) is a time of high stress for many families and relationships because there is a lot going on and while the message is of 'coddling ' for many it isn't.

Even in my very good marriage, I was very stressed this Christmas with some family members. And our Christmas Day was only three of us:rotfl:.

Re volunteering, I wasn't living where I volunteered when I volunteered. I chose to do it that way on purpose. If you have a car that's an option. But it doesn't have to be a chistmas think Lost, if you are looking for a network, you have to go out and find one. Volunteering is one way to do that, but not the only way.

If you have any specific skills to offer its likely you might meet more like minded people, e.g. Wasp is good at mending things, so is going to volunteer at one of the 'fixing' volunteer options. IMO he is more likely to meet like minded conversation there than at one of the broader spectrum volunteer options, though I'm sure connections can me made pretty much any where if the wind blows the right way. :)

Similarly, any hobbies or skills for leisure might be worth looking into a meet up group or similar.

I've just been listening to a radio programme about positive news channels. Not all good news and fluffy kittens, but instead of always focusing on the negatives its looking at other aspects of news rather than scaring the crap out of people. I like that idea.

That's why I used to like Newsround. It gave the news in a non-scary way, but also talked about lots of nice news.

The National News always used to end on a light-hearted or heart-warming bit of news to cheer us all up after the doom and gloom stuff, but they don't seem to do that so much now. Shame!

I have chocolate biscuits, plus plain old Rich Tea. Good for dunking though a real pain if they get too soggy, fall apart and get squished into the duvet.

Just found a Kitkat. Willing to share :D
