    Lost and Pyxis,
Have you ever volunteered a Christmas anywhere?
I did a volunteer Christmas once when I was quite young and it was one of the best Christmases I have ever had.
Family is. An ongoing issue for me.
Yes, I did do that once, but I found I have to get away from the hype thing, as it's that that upsets me. Besides, for once I want to be coddled, not be the one doing the coddling! It's the not being coddled that's the worst thing!

I've been abroad, which is great , 'cos they make far less of Christmas in say, Italy, than here. Having an excursion on Christmas Day is fantastic! One year I went to Sicily and on Christmas Day we went to Segesta; the sun was shining, it was balmy, the place was deserted apart from our group, the view was wonderful and it was very atmospheric!

This year I stayed in England but went to a country place where the hype is minimised.....yes, there's a tree and turkey lunch etc, but not false jollity, and there was a sense of togetherness without it being claustrophobic. There were a couple of short talks on interesting subjects, a couple of non-Christmassy films to watch on a screen, and nice walks to do if you were so inclined. Shame I was going down with the lurgy!

    The temple of Segesta, Sicily:-

Pyxis, in the most basic terms I can use, without confusing you with how evrrything is a series of 0 and 1s, and assuming you mean, how does the photo get here from the link you post, all internet sites are hosted in files and folders on a server. The link (or URL) is assigned to this folder so when your browser asks for this site, it will know where to look. When you paste the link into html tags, its an instruction to access the folder where the image is kept and place it on the page where the html tag is. Does that make any sense?
Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.
  • (The zeroes and ones send off a little imp with a mirror. They tell him how to adjust the mirror so it reflects exactly the image you want back to your screen :D)
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

Love the idea of the imp with a mirror, but sadly could not find a suitable pic! :(

Hmm. I think I was confusing the address of the pic with the instructions to the computer to form the pic ie the '0's and '1's.

And now I don't know what I do mean! :o:o:o

Pity they never invented one that improved your handwriting as it sent it! :rotfl:

I still can't get over the fact that you can pick up a phone and talk to someone who's literally on the other side of the world, virtually instantaneously!
(But then, I'm easily amazed! :D)

I found myself applauding an invisible 6ft 3 1/2 in rabbit taking a curtain call at the theatre last night. It doesn't get much odder than that.

I am currently contemplating Gitdog and trying to decide whether he is cute in an annoying sort of a way, or annoying in a cute sort of a way. Or just plain annoying. He's playing maracas on the coal scuttle again which isn't helping my poorly head in the slightest.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

    Hello All,

Just discovered this thread and thought I would say "hi". Am still working my way through the posts (what's all this about duvets?? Are they hypoallergenic. Got my allergies to think of...)

Many of the posts are making me smile, which is much needed just now, so thank you, posters!
