Of course there is stress the day before the holiday, of course...

I just had a text message from my bank telling me that they have frozen my card (and WaSp's card associated to my account) and bank account. I called them and there was a fraudulent transaction (an attempt at transfer for £1000) which they immediately blocked and then froze everything, it was red flagged because I don't have even half of that much in my account and the bank account it was transferring to unknown in my previous usage. They said they would send new cards in 3 days. I am not here in 3 days! So we have agreed that I will call them when I return home and they will send the new cards out then. In the meantime they will keep my current card active but will keep it flagged so that the computer sends a text after every transaction to check it was me. It will be easier to use my credit card and then pay it off in full in 10 days time because otherwise I have to be with WaSp everytime he buys something, including in busy shops. Thank God I have a credit card!

I need to calm down now and quietly curse whoever stole my details. This doing nothing for my paranoia.

    So WaS - a bad thing happened.
And you have dealt with it!:T You have used the phone, agreed to a plan to make sure you have money while you're away, and basically calmly sorted out what was needed. Well done you.:T
As we near Thread III, it is hard to believe we are all rooting for the same quivering person who started Thread I - now she's packing for a holiday! What an amazing transformation.:j:j

WaS - a similar thing happened to me before we went on holiday last year. I got a text from my credit card company saying there'd been fraudulent activity on my account and someone had tried to use my card at 5am. It was only for about £12 but they like to try little tranactions first, so check your bank statement. They had to cancel my card and the hotel was booked on it so that was a hassle. But it is reassuring to know they're on the ball.

But you've handled it and now you can look forward to your trip.

Hahahahaha! Thank you tea and Solar! Things have changed a lot since I made the first thread and it is kind of fitting that our third should start with me going on holiday! I shall start a new thread in a couple of hours!

That is a good point, code. I will watch my account daily for the next few days. As you say on the bright side my bank were very quick to notice it which is a very good thing! As much as credit cards aren't always the best option they invaluable in situations like this. I am so glad that I have one.

I am laughing at someone trying to transfer £1000, they were very hopeful! I would love to have that much money in my account!

So is sir pugliet all packed, little spotted hankie at the ready? Gitdog snuck into suitcase? I've not sorted out a holiday for this year, but even a daytrip to the seaside would be fun.
Random MH question - anyone heard of REM therapy? I know I can google but I like to hear about personal experience as well.

Damn fraudsters using other people's cards  Good that the banks are right on to it though. Good job you had a credit card WaS! :)

Just making some home made rice pudding! Never made it before, so we shall see how it turns out....

ETA: Not very nice it seems! Just realised that I should have rinsed the rice first....don't think it would have made much difference though!

If I'm not mistaken REM therapy is another name for EMDR therapy which I have had. It works by putting the mind in partial sleep mode and allowing it to shift the files it can't process, such as PTSD memories that you can't stop thinking about. EMDR forces the brain to file them away and remove from them from the front of ones thoughts. I did find it helped with particularly traumatic PTSD that I relived all of the time. To do this a therapist will use a rhythm of some description, such as watching their finger moving back and forth or in my case tapping on my knees as the memory is recounted.

Is REM like EMDR? It sounds as though it might be. In that case, although it seems like a bit of a cranky idea it does actually work.
