Rather than tackling the food side of it, could you encourage more exercise? I find if I up my exercise a bit then I start to feel healthier and so want to eat more healthily. It is the only way round I can do it as the minute I even think of healthy eating or dieting it all goes wrong.
Maybe try going for nice evening strolls around the time he would start to snack, and try and break that habit. Start a project in the garden, decorating etc that would eek in to the time he would be snacking.0 -
Dieting does not work.
I read a book called escape the diet trap and all of what the man says just makes sense.
That low fat and carb diets don't work long term. We should eat fat as long as its good fat like butter.
The best to do is eat healthy and exercise and go from there.

Anyway had a teeny tiny binge this evening. But I am not going to beat myself up over that.
Got back from seeing husband at about 8pm and just got back in from working in the garden. Fixed the fence just needed a block of wood to chock it. Cut a piece and wedged it in.
And bunging as much green waste in to my bin as possible as the next collection is the last as they want to charge £40 a year which is a bit cheeky.
Did the weeding around the outside of the fence. Going to get some weed killer then some cement to fill in the small gap to stop the weeds. Its seem later in the evening when it's cooler is better for me to get stuff done LOL!!!

I see a hippopotamus when I look in the mirror, MU. I hate the weight I am and hate even more that I can't do anything about it because I broke my own body. The word diet makes me cringe now, healthy eating is so much better. It is much slower if you want to lose or gain weight but is so much better for you and far more sustainable. Looking back I would have done so much better to stay as a little plump and get help with my ED but I didn't want help. Sadly, my situation for people is common for people who had ED when they were younger, by the time you get to middle age the effects on your body are irreversible, or you aren't here anymore because you have destroyed your body completely.
Healthy eating is the way forward and you will naturally lose or gain weight, whichever you need. Nutritionists can really be a great help and teach you the right way to do it. Also, avoid slimming pills unless prescribed. I took these without a prescription for years and this is why I now have Reflux Disease. They did help me when I was 20 stone and my thyroid disease was first discovered, my GP recommended them but even after a 6 month course I had awful heartburn and stomach cramps for a year afterwards because my body no longer has any defence against these things. I also have no idea if I am hungry or full anymore. I destroyed the impulse to feel it. Now I eat to keep my blood sugar stable every few hours but I could stop at any time or go on eating forever.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

I doubt it WaS.
I think what code said is very true, he's going to have to want to do it for himself, and until a switch flips inside to make him want to, then I don't think anything is going to change.
I think I'm going to buy myself a kettlebell, for me personally, as I feel I need to tone up myself, and perhaps get back down to a size 10. Maybe if he sees me starting an exercise regime, it might influence him too? Who knows?! ETA: I see Katy has put something similar!0 -
That's a good idea, Georgie. If he see's you having fun with exercise (just look enthusiastic if you can) he might get the urge to join in. I do agree that you have to want to do it, as I said nothing would stop me yoyo dieting, people telling me it was going to harm me did no good at all. I had to want to change things for myself and want to be healthy.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Kettlebells can work wonders. DH has a friend who was quie overweight. He took up kettlebells and the next time I saw him, a few months later, he was ripped.
I wish I had known how much damage I was doing with the yoyo dieting when I was younger. You don't listen though. Much better to eat right and exercise.
The two diet plans I mentioned earlier are not diets in the traditional sense as they are not restrictive. You can eat as much as you like, but because you're not eating so much rubbish, you do find yourself making healthy choice and it becomes about moderation.
I agree about the diet foods though. Go with real butter, cheese and full fat products where possible as low fat products are filled with sugar and creepy chemicals.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -

After seeing a programme quite a while back about how it's better to go for the full fat products rather than the low fat (because of the sugar), we swapped over. I try to get my Mam to change, but she still has the mind set that it's the low fat yoghurts etc she needs to go for.
Just ordered a kettle bell, wasn't sure what weight to go for, so started off with a 6kg. Might change it to a 8?0 -
I was also told this by my nutritionist. She advised me to eat full fat products, just have less of them. She suggested the same with sugar, have ordinary sugar in my coffee and avoid sweeteners at all costs. I lived off of diet foods for years and my endocrinologist says they are partly responsible for the damage to my body, plus I was lacking a whole heap of vitamins and minerals as a result despite being overweight.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France
