Here come the Scots, riding in on our battle stags :rotfl:

In happier news, a record number of women MPs were elected which is a nice step towards equality.

Nor me - certainly not when we've spent the last few months (if not years) being told how close it would be. It honestly never occurred to me that anyone would win outright.

    Miliband's gone too now.

I think Nigel Farage will be back in a couple of months though. His 'resignation' was very weasley.

He said he would stand for Leader again in September! Derr?
Interesting that the only Ukip win was by an ex-Tory who'd held the seat for a number of years.

Yes, the results were a huge surprise!
Well done Scotland! I have no problem with Scotland having a stronger voice in Parliament, and thereby more autonomy. :) I just hope it doesn't mean the start of a process leading to the breakup of the Union. :(

One shock for me, though nothing to do with where I live, was to see Simon Hughes lose his seat after 32 years!!! (I once knew him briefly, when I was in my early 20s, so have been following his career with interest!)

And the loss of so many familiar faces, in all parties! What a shake-up!

We definitely need more Leadership-quality people in parliament.

I'm pretty surprised by the results too. In in North Yorkshire and we were never going to have anything other than a Tory win (no matter who I voted for! :p) but I honestly didn't think it'd be such a clear conservative win, it never occurred to me that one party would win the majority! Pretty shocking stuff about Scotland too, well, not shocking, but just a massive change! Not too sure about how everything will pan out TBH; living in the North of England I don't really feel the 'bias' towards England that people complain about yet wonder why I don't get free prescriptions etc and feel that the gulf between the countries will grow, to my detriment! :o

Birdie, I agree. I live in the Midlands and feel I get the worst of both worlds. No benefit from things like free prescriptions, tuition fees etc. But also none of the benefits that the SE experiences. Maybe I should set up a Warwickshire Party :D

The South East experiences the 'benefit' of stupid house prices (London in particular, and anywhere with a good train route in), if that's any compensation. I grew up just inside the M25 ring, a house (teeny 1950s bungalow) like mine, but near where my parents live would probably be about 60-80% more than mine is worth, and Bristol isn't cheap compared to many places.

My parents only afforded their house because they got on the housing ladder after marrying 50 years ago when prices were still realistic, If they weren't retired they'd probably need to borrow 10x their combined salaries to buy their house!

Now we've got a weekend of VE Day celebrations! Starting with a chain of beacons being lit!

    The Cenotaph ceremony was moving.

(And that was the last time we'll see Cameron, Clegg and Miliband in the same frame!)
