I've always been geeky and sad - I've done an overnighter for most elections. And taken an afternoon off to watch the budget more than once

Who will be staying up all night for the election results?
Maybe - I did in 1992 when it looked like the result might be a hung parliament (and also it was the first general election I could vote in, as the 1987 one was just before my 18th birthday - I was cross about that :p ) although I'm in a sleeping badly phase at the moment and may run out of stamina before the first seat is declared.

As for the budget, we used to have a radio on at work during the speech, but nowadays those that are interested (which is me) stream it from the BBC website.

I'm off to vote at lunchtime; I think it's going to be a bit of a messy one so not going to be sitting up all night watching the results! I'm not the most savvy of voters, I just go with my gut and what little I can decipher but I'm Jeremy Paxman in comparison to some of my friends! ;) I was trying to explain the different parties to a friend at the weekend who has never voted (at 30!), which is really bad IMO as she owns her own business so really ought to take more interest in things that directly affect her livelihood!

A chance comment from a friend the other day made me think they'd never voted (something along the lines of going to the town hall to vote). I was amazed - surely even if you've never gone yourself you can't miss all the polling stations?? Especially as they were always in school when we were both young so we'd get a day off.

I do sometimes wonder what planet some people live on!

    Just been to vote. Urgh!

Just thought, WaS, do you vote (by post!) or is it a trigger?

I eat virtually anything. I'd certainly try most things. I baulk at rare meat, though.....I don't like it to be at all pink, or have pink juices. It's not the visual blood aspect, as I don't mind gore, but I don't like the taste or texture of it.
Neither do I like beetroot. If I have to eat it, I'd rather it were roasted.

I once made a chocolate cake, years ago, which had a secret ingredient which was beetroot! You couldn't taste it at all, but it made the cake nice and moist!

PENGUINing this as you did....Even though I'm fairly squeamish on a lot of things, I agree with the above, and would probably try them too! I got some chocolate covered ants once for my Dad as he was adventurous in what he would eat having been in the army. He wouldn't touch them! So I ate the whole tub with everyone else going Ewww! They were quite tasty actually! (Edited out your text above as forgot it showed up when quoted!)
    END PENGUIN

I know this is geeky and sad but I am tempted! Although I think we won't end up with a definitive result for a few days yet.

    I am genuinely excited :)

Me too! DH said for some reason this is the first year that he's really been interested and took notice for some reason, same goes for me too.

It's a lovely day here, sunny and looks warm (although not sure if it is?) so will walk down later as it's just down the road.

Eta: I won't be staying up to watch the results though!

I always vote, always, local Holywood and Westminster. Not well enough to stay up for the results, though I usually would.

Postal voting has been wonderful for me, no last minute changes of heart, but so much less stress

They'll hear me roar in London if my local mp gets his p45.

Apparently one of the hubs in Glasgow East had their locks superglued and had to access it via drills.

    Just back from voting.

You know when you feel like you're being watched? I turn round after voting to find all three women (albeit from behind their desk) staring at me, and then watching as I put my papers into the ballot box, made me feel nervous for some reason! :rotfl:

Phoned my Mam and she's in floods of tears as my Uncle (Dad wanted my Uncle to carry his ashes) can't make the 17th May. I don't know what to say to her, I know that date is a very special date to her though.

I've tried to (in the nicest possible way of course) make light of it and say that Dad wouldn't mind, because you know what fellas are like with Wedding Anniversaries! Me personally, I don't place huge importance on my own wedding anniversary, but I can totally understand why a lot of people do. I just don't know what to say to her to make her feel better?

She's also upset as she went into a cafe they used to go into and the guy said "on your own today?", and so understandably that upset her.

I know this sounds selfish, but when I get upset, I tend to cry for a few minutes max, that might be on and off during the day, but even though I'm a very emotional person, I'm not a big cryer iykwim? My Mam does tend to be and of course I know that everyone deals with things differently and in their own way. I just don't know how to handle situations like that sometimes. I worry for people, it plays on my mind. I hate to think of her sitting there sobbing her heart out, I don't know what to say to try and help her? I'm struggling enough with my own emotions at the moment, I don't know how to deal with other people's too.

Sorry for the long post, it only meant to start out small!
