Aww that's a shame. They always seem to penalise single travellers. :( My Aunty and uncle are on a cruise right now with some friends of theirs. The single lady with them is paying almost as much!

Actually, what amazed me was when I booked to go to spain with travel republic, I wasnt penalised at all. I think I paid pennies over what Id have paid if I had been with someone.

I got a weeks all inclusive in Majorca last June for 230 quid. The hotel was one of those, dont ever go there!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on trip advisor but there was absolutely nothing wrong with it at all.

Fabulous food, the best I think Id had in any hotel in spain I had ever been to.

I'm a natural hermit too. I love a night in with my cat, my knitting and a cup of tea (I swear I'm in my 30s, not my 90s lol). I just need a kick up the backside sometimes or I can end up spending all my time like that.

Also a hermit. I love my couch and dog cuddles and a good book. I used to feel like I should be going out but now I just accept that I like my cave.

I also looked at dublin, I can get there for 9.99 but holy macaroni the prices of the hotels almost made me cry.

    I can seriously recommend Belfast.

I went there a few years ago. I was a bit doubtful because I'd been to Dublin a couple of years earlier and hated it.
But Belfast was fabulous! Chalk and cheese from Dublin! There was a real buzz! Lots of new developments, but pride in the history of the shipbuilding etc.
There were bus tours around the troubles roads, with emphasis on the political wall art. It was a complete revelation. I remembered, all through the 70s, night after night, news bulletins about the troubles, and I never in a million years thought that one day I'd be on a tourist trail around those very roads!
The vibes there were stimulating, and I loved the place!

From there, you could do day trips to other towns, or even the Giant's Causeway! :T

Pardon for butting in....but I totally agree! Miles cheaper than Dublin too for things like food and drink. And fabulous countryside and sites to visit just a few miles away and easy access by public transport. :) I recommend a visit (I know I'm biased, since I live there...but I'm not from there!).

Ive been to belfast a couple of times, but Im fine with going back to somewhere Ive been. A local bus company actually does a day trip to belfast which is excellent but they dont get back to Glasgow until after midnight which would mean me hanging around for a night bus to get home, but I might just do it.

Its 33 quid for the day so I might just bite the bullet and book it.

Its a shame they get back so late as otherwise my mum and I would go, but as it is, I wont get home till 2am if I do book it and I dont think my mum would care for not getting home till 2 in the morning.

Does your local bus company not do longer trips away too? Ours always advertises in the local paper.

Belfast does look really nice too. £33 is a good price. :)

Would it be out of the question to stay overnight?

I've been watching a fascinating prog on BBC2 about moving penguins and moving bees.

Because bee numbers have reduced so much in the UK, this chap goes out to Italy and buys loads of Italian bees and trucks them back to Britain. Very interesting.
