I usually say something along the lines of:

I having been reading about X online. Have you heard of it? I was wondering if that would be something that would be more suitable for me and how we may go about changing to it?

I get on better if it becomes their decision.

I have also had 'no' said to me before (which I have accepted without argument), and then gone back for a follow up and they have brought it up. Or I have brought it up again next time, eg with a different or the same doctor. It would be their decision but I would ensure that I eventually knew why not.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

Erm, the boys tell me I can and want me to do it publicly but unfortunately, the ex told me I couldn't years ago and laughed at me, so that stops me...just in case the boys are being kind and the ex husband honest!
Sue, He has a lovely voice! Also, believe your sons! Children are honest because they suffer from parental embarrassment, if they didn't think you were brilliant they wouldn't say it!.

I was just going to say that, WaS!

SingleSue, your boys certainly wouldn't risk being embarrassed! The fact that they want you to do it means you must have a very good voice indeed!

Sounds to me like your ex needs to go to the same place as WaS's voices! :D

Code, it may also help to take the details on one side of A5 paper, no larger, (I was once told that!), so that if he asks for some details, you already have the references written down.

And yes, if dismissed, just ask again another time!
Or just keep reiterating, quietly, that " I really would like to give this a go, please".

Code, if you mention it and they dismiss it, can you try with another GP at your surgery? Sometimes some are more open to trying new things than others.

WaS, my hair goes like that after being out in the rain! I had a diffuser years ago and I found it worked best when my hair had loads of layers cut into it and plenty of mouse!

DH put the slow cooker on but put it on warm instead of high....tea will be delayed for quite a while!

Thanks. I think your advice is definitely the way to go. I think the issue is going to be that it is expensive, but the drug I'm on at the the moment is also expensive. As is having to buy larger clothes every couple of weeks.

I really want to get away somewhere. I am in a huge rut and its certainly not as bad as it's been but work and lack of funds isn't helping. I've just started work as a personal trainer. I give a really good rate as I live in a poor area and another discount for people who do my classes. But it's impacting on my own life due to some folk who think it's ok to cancel on me at two hours notice. It's just par for the course. I didn't get home till 9pm on Friday night because someone wanted to speak to me about pt and then changed her mind. I take into account that people have got kids and issues with childcare crop up. I also don't charge people if they miss a session. But I've had to ask that if folk can't make it they tell me a day in advance unless it's an emergency situation.

I think right now as much as I love what I do, I've realised that I need a bit of time out. I work Monday to Friday evenings. When I'm not teaching I'm training.

And I've had a lot of wasted days lately caused by folks inability to tell me in good time that they can't make a pt session.

I'm looking at cheap train fares just now, don't care if it's London or Newcastle, just want to go and Do something.

I also get folks texting me at 6am and midnight to say they can't do classes.

    Thank goodness for airplane mode.

purpleshoes - my dog walker has a policy that if you don't give him enough notice, you have to pay even if you cancel. My driving instructor had the same policy too. Maybe you need to do something like that.

I know, I actually mentioned it to my brother last week, hes also a PT and I have to be realistic and know that some people are going to waste your time, he said that some folks operate a 24 hour cancellation policy.

I dont mind so much the money, its my time. And honestly, I dont ever do anything majorly exciting on my down time. I work 4 nights a week, combination of teaching classes and personal training.

I also PT a couple of people in the afternoons. It seems like some people do have it in their head that its a dip in and dip out kind of thing. Its not the cancellations that are annoying me, its the lack of notice, the last few weeks, Ive had a few people cancel on me at two hours notice and its been too late do anything else with my day.

One way around it would be to ask people to block book sessions, but not everyone can afford that. Ive asked that folk tell me 24 hours in advance if they cant make it, unless its an emergency, I dont think I can say fairer than that really.

Plus Ive also offered, in times where people cant get childcare, they can bring kids along, Im a qualified kids fitness instructor and I have my PVG and thats not a problem.

I know it happens, Ive seen my brother say that people have cancelled on him very late in the day, just that its a bit different to group fitness, in that situation folks just show face or they dont, one to one, well if someone lets you down, it can throw your whole day out of whack.

Agree with code purpleshoes. My driving instructor had the same policy. My Mam was furious once (and I don't blame her) as I didn't turn up for a lesson and she still had to pay. I was at college and the pub was much more interesting at the time!

If I was you, I would introduce a cancellation policy.

Re the days out, you can get some good deals on trains to the Metro Centre.

All I can say from my own perspective, is try and not to take too much notice of what the scales say. It can get really addictive jumping on and off the scales. When I was losing weight over the last couple of years, I hit a 6 months plateau, I was busting my !!! in classes, eating clean and nothing moved. Where as some people who were doing the same fitness classes as me and eating clean, lost 13 pounds in an 8 week bootcamp.

If you like HIIT (well, no one in their right mind likes HIIT really)Id be happy to give you a list of bodyweight exercises you could do to do a HIIT workout in the house and if you have spotify, there are loads of workout tabata mixes that give you the work rest timings. I buy them for my classes (because sadly you arent allowed to use spotify outside your own home).
