Sorry to hear that, Sue.
And don't blame yourself for the hereditary stuff. I've probably inheritied something from mum too. (although, she's probably just a carrier and I've unfortuantely just ended up with it)

Well, you can't be Waves and Smiles with straight hair, now can you?
Lostinrates, chickens and eggs all over the place! Who cares, if you're feeling good!
I did a little bit more paperwork today, not as much as I would have liked, but am going abroad next week for a few days, and had to get my suitcase organised with what I need to take. It's an AmDram thing, not a holiday as such, although it will be a sort of a hol, I suppose!
Would you believe I have never ever been to Spain! I tend to go to Italy, so that I can practice what I have learned at Italian classes! It's going to be frustrating not quite knowing the language! I hate not having any knowledge of the country's language! Even though the hotel website is fully English, I feel it's insulting not to even have the basics!
I will be taking my iPad, but probably won't be able to go online till the evening, and then only in public areas, which will be a pain! So don't worry if from Wednesday I don't post much!
Please be aware that there are several different languages spoken in Spain. What we call Spanish is actually Castilian and most Spaniards speak it, but you will also find Catalan, Valenciano, Galician and Basque and several minority languages. There is also Mallorquin, spoken in Mallorca, and down in Andalucia, whilst officially they speak Castilian, they speak it with such a strong regional accent that other Castilian-speakers from (e.g) Madrid, have trouble understanding them
In Gibraltar they are bilingual English-Castilian, but for every day language they speak Spanglish.
I lived in Las Alpujarras in Andalucia for eight years and could make myself known in Andaluz Castilian, but found it hard to understand what was said back to me

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
I would love to be able to read novels in French. I think that is incredible.
Catching up on the posts, it is evident what a bunch of extremely talented individuals we have here in Team WaS. So, stop comparing yourselves to other people who make you feel less talented at something. You are all fantastic, exactly as you are.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Yes, we each have different talents!Josh got brave again last night and was singing in public once more.....think his demons are finally being slayed!

Erm, the boys tell me I can and want me to do it publicly but unfortunately, the ex told me I couldn't years ago and laughed at me, so that stops me...just in case the boys are being kind and the ex husband honest! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Sue, your son is very talented! :T
I don't think I'd be able to go on holiday on my own either. I'd get bored I think. As much as I like having some me time now and again, I prefer having company. Plus, my sense of direction isn't that good either....I'd probably get lost!0 -
I'm impressed with the range of talents we have in here.
Sue, don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something. Your ex sounds like a right !!!!. Your sons are right.
I really enjoyed my one solo travelling experience. I was terrified at first but it was brilliant. I could do what I wanted without having to compromise. I got lost all the time and I even got stranded in Sydney when I missed my once every couple of days train elsewhere. I got the bus instead and got to see other places. I met people in hostels and on transport so I never had a shortage of people to talk to. Plus, they were so nice to me on the plane and kept bringing me wine.
Ok, I have a question for you guys. I've been doing research and I've found a drug treatment that doesn't have weight gain as a side effect but does have weight loss. Studies have shown that Its about 75% effective for my condition. I want to ask my GP to shift me to this, but they're always a bit dismissive of me. How do I ask?Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Sue, He has a lovely voice! Also, believe your sons! Children are honest because they suffer from parental embarrassment, if they didn't think you were brilliant they wouldn't say it!
Georgie, my hair is weird. It is half wavy and half curly which results in extreme frizz! I usually brush it straight and use products to try and hold it there but it bounces back up in an hour. So I have given in and am going to see if I can make the most of the waves.
