I ran outside at just the right time, there was a little gap in the clouds so I got a peek of it :)

Come on in, HBS! Here's a nice mug of tea.

ETA: Interesting article here on the subject on insanity (mental illness that stops people being guilty of a crime but society still accepting that they did it). May be penguiny for some, especially victims of crime:

Oh dear, I feel I should know the answer to that, but I don't really.

Additional to what? What is he getting at the moment?

What do you actually want? Your local Mind might provide counselling.

It does sound as if counselling would be helpful, then. Do have a look at your local Mind, but even IAPT* would be better than nothing - your Dr should be happy enough to refer there.....

Melly, does your OH's GP have a counsellor allocated to the surgery? Mine does, and they cover while a referral is going through for indepth therapy. The GP should be able to make referral and if he thinks it is urgent can refer to the Community Mental Health Team, I have seen them through a GP referral before. You can also pay to see a therapist privately if you wish which is obviously far faster than a referral. As JM says, MIND also have counsellors.

If things get really bad, your OH can always go to A&E and say he needs help right now. This will mean he is seen by the Crisis Team who will rush things through rapidly. With the amount of pressure your OH is under it is worth keeping it in mind if his mental health becomes worse. It is a last resort for an emergency but with the way his family are treating him I think it is worth remembering in case the poor man can't take anymore and becomes ill through no fault of his own. It is far easier to treat someone on the edge of a breakdown rather than after they have had one.
