Are Garzanti good? I haven't looked into them at all.
I'm learning and far from fluent. In my fourth year of evening classes, run by the Bristol City Council adult learning service and currently trying to get to grips with the subjunctive / conjuntivo (present and passato). Guess you're rather further along than me.
I can manage conversation about various things, our teacher (who is excellent) often gets us to give views on events in the news, which can get rather philosophical at times and really streches us, trying to communicate thoughts and ideas.
Mu goal is to be able to watch an episode of Montalbano without subtitles and understand it all. Long way off that yet, comprehension of dialogue at full Italian speed is a far away dream at the moment!
Did you know there is a Bristol Italian speakers meet up group? Maybe you are part of it? We wanted to join but realistically its just too far for us to go ( its just its our nearest).0 -

. I've went to one about 18 months back which was a nice evening and still watch their calendar, but don't have much luck with scheduling. Despite having little social life, I always seem to be busy

Life Is A Rollercoaster
Life is like a rollercoaster
I want to get off this ride
Facing all the ups and downs
From myself i want to hide
Each day is a lottery
Not knowing if i'll be happy or sad
Feeling great one moment
Then I'm feeling bad
Filled with so much uncertainty
Makes some days hard to bear
I constantly have to remind myself
Why for this life i should care
I tell myself one day i'll be better
Oh to be normal, for one day
I shall recover from this madness
And let my worries fade awayThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I like the last verse best. That's how I realised I was getting better, one day here and there to be normal, and those single days got more frequent.
(My poets day was P.. Off Early Tomorrow's Saturday - I actually work Saturdays most of the time but still like to pretend that I get a Saturday feeling).
I read the latest Jodi Picoult book. Can't go into details without spoiling it, but a lot of you would probably like it.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Awesome night tonight, middle son finally beat his demons and stopped hiding behind his drum kit and the result is this

So, so proud of him.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

In my view the large Garzanti is the very best. (The Hazon). It's extremely detailed, containing lots of technical and scientific words, too. It's also got loads of colloquial variations.
Very expensive, though. Mine cost me £75 in 2009. You can get it from the Italian Bookshop in London. They'll do mail order. It's the most comprehensive out there. For the odd word/expression that isn't there, sometimes the very large Collins, used in conjunction with it, solves the problem. (But the Collins on its own isn't as good).
I love my Garzanti! I lug it to lessons and we're always referring to it!
(If you want to know the exact one I have, let me know.)
MessedUp very nice poem! You got the ups and downs nicely! :T
SingleSue, you should be proud of him! That's quite a feat! :T(I just lurve spiders!)
