  • HBS, maybe you just need a little space to be sad for a while? Virtual cuddles coming your way.

How can we go about getting OH to propose to you? (A team WaS project, maybe?)

Can you find an enjoyable course to expand your skillset so you are more marketable, or do you want to stay where you are despite being underpaid?
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

    HBS - sorry, cross-posted, wasn't ignoring you :)

Are these ongoing feelings of 'meh' with life, or is it more recent? Not that it's ever good to feel like this of course, just wondered if it was a bad day/week, or a longer problem. Have a hug (((hbs)))

    Thanks JM :)

This is going to sound ridiculous but I won't allow myself to be sad when I have nothing to be sad about really :o I do wonder if it's hormones as I have Nexplanon?

He won't propose sadly, he's just not into marriage. I think the idea bemuses him. However, he is wonderful, and I would rather have him without a ring than anyone else with one :)

The work thing's an interesting predicament. When I went to uni, I studied biology. I was great at electronics and the like but it was hard for women to get into engineering then, so I drifted into science. I then worked in QC for seven years, with a gentle move towards scientific automation, and now I validate software according to set protocols, and sometimes I write those protocols.

So I'm a jack-of-all-trades and master of none :/ I have been teaching/re-teaching myself some basic coding but worry it's too little too late...

    RAAARGH! Hahaha!

HBS, it is wired into the human genome to be dissatisfied. On an evolutionary basis, being dissatisfied with one's lot is what made us leave Africa in the first place and try new things and strive for new things, new inventions and new discoveries. It is what drives us forward.

Maybe it is time to try something new. It doesn't have to be drastic or life-changing, it may just be a new evening class or going to one-off lectures.
Is there a Science society that does regular lectures? Or Local History Society? Do you like any aspects of art? If so, look up your local Nadfas society.......they have guest lecturers once a month on all aspects of art and design, history of art, textiles, jewellery, furniture, all sorts. The lecturers are very high quality, often from the British Museum and the like. There's no commitment once you've paid the very reasonable subs.
    Or a walking club?
    Bird watching club?
National Trust/English Heritage put on lots of events too.
One-off craft days at a craft centre where you can try a new skill?
Check in your library, museum, galleries for leaflets on all sorts of things that might appeal.

Aww thanks tea :) I would never have thought that *hugs back*

I'm really not sure how long this has been going on. Maybe a trip to the docs is in order.

Was it you that did the silversmithing course Pyxis? I've found one within a driveable distance that looks fun, but have to weigh up the cost...

Maybe it's time for a trip to a museum. Or something. I rarely do anything just for me, my whole life revolves around other people, so maybe I need some time out.

Re. The non-marrying OH, have you sorted things out like a will, so that you have your rights protected re. the house, insurances and other assets? Not to mention pension rights?

If those things are watertight, then would a simple ceremony of commitment, without any 'legal' validity, fit the bill for you?

Edit. Yes, it was me that did the silversmithing! Very satisfying!

I think there's a lot to be said for putting yourself first for a while. Doesn't have to be anything drastic (although a month in Barbados might help :D) - even cliche things like a nice long bath, some new pjs and a good book really cheer me up.

What's the weather forecast for the weekend where you are? If it's not peeing down, maybe try a walk? A bit of fresh air and some nice scenery can help blow away the cobwebs. There's an alpaca farm near me, if it's sunny on sunday I will pop along there and laugh at their adorable little faces. Then I will treat myself to tea and cake in their cafe and just enjoy having some time to myself.

Hope you find something that works for you x.

I hope the blood results aren't too bad, LIR. We miss you!

Aw, have a hug HBS. It is ok to be sad sometimes, I think everyone has things that they look at in their life that makes them feel discontent. The work situation sounds frustrating, are their any courses you could take to open new opportunities for you? We don't want a new HBS, you are perfect so no going anywhere! *clings to your leg*

The anti-psychotics knocked me out yesterday evening so of course I woke up at 3am ready to start the day. Sleep patterns are overrated. Now I have an upset stomach which is no doubt stress induced which isn't exactly helping my other little problem.
