Two people didn't turn up to stag do and I'm out £100

This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks...
I recently arranged a stag do for a close friend, which started with a go-karting adventure. There were 10 of us and I made all the arrangements, getting RSVPs from everyone and paying the venue. Two of the guys who said they were coming didn't show up, so I'm £100 out of pocket. I've emailed both but received no response. Should I ask the friend who got married to get involved and ask them to pay me my money?

Yes definitely! You were organising it on their behalf- if I was them I'd want you to tell me and I'd want to help sort it out. It's such a hard thing to organise with people you probably don't know that well.0

If you have no other way of contacting them, yes.
I'm future and this applies to all group activities, holidays etc, it's a good idea to get everyone to pay up front first then if people don't show it's their loss.0 -
No, I wouldn't bother. No contracts were signed - maybe mention it in passing at the wedding and get them to buy the drinks.Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0

Can you sue a fiance if they back out of a wedding?
Events like that, get the money up front.0 -
Send them an invoice, but hope their dad doesn't find out!'I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my father. Not screaming and terrified like his passengers.' (Bob Monkhouse).
Sky? Believe in better.
Note: win, draw or lose (not 'loose' - opposite of tight!)0 -
Two lessons learned for the future. Let someone else take the risks involved in organising events.
Never book anything on behalf of someone else if you don't have their money first.
You could ask your friend to have a word but I don't see these guys paying £100 for something they didn't go to.0 -
Surely the total should be shared amongst the eight of you so each of you would have paid an equal share (?).0

This is like that article in the newspaper two weeks ago where the boy didn't go to a birthday party.
It's akin to wedding guests who don't show / cancel at the last minute.
Very annoying and very rude!
It's unlikely you'll get the money back but make sure you find a way to mention it if you see them again.
Also for future, never book anything on behalf of anyone else unless you have the cash. If you're organising a group do, set deadlines, if people don't pay by the deadline then book without them and let them sort themselves out.0 -
Chalk this one up to experience. If you're ever in this situation again, its money upfront or no place on the stag do.SPC7 ~ Member#390 ~ £432.45 declared :j

Been in this position myself and the person who didn't show wasn't coming to the wedding (it was abroad). Just took the pain myself as knowing the guy he was unlikely to pay and if I'd said to the groom he would have felt obliged to cover it himself.0
