  • Great advice, thanks all. I have 10 years to claim back through RBS (before 2005). Does anyone have a contact number for them?

For the years before 2005, you can write to the card issuer and claim that way. Barclays seem to be doing the right thing and refunding people.

It doesn't matter. The level of the feature refers to the value in 2014 when the feature was dropped.

So, you have the £100,000 cover.

Some excellent information on this thread for the somewhat bewildered (myself included), so thanks to all contributors.

So, just to absolutely clarify - and I can only apologise... Looking back, my perception of what the policy offered me was that outlined in Template 1. However, does using this template cover me all the way back to 2005 – did the policy always make that claim over the period or would using this template mean that I did not receive compensation for some years?

Secondly, it looks like I had the policy initially in 2004 as well for just the one year of £20 with Smile (Co-operative Bank) - has anyone had any dealings with Co-op on the matter? I'm a tad apprehensive in case I get shot down with a potentially legitimate riposte of "Well that's before it was breaking the rules".

    Thanks

I've just received my compensation payment of £299.93 being a refund of all payments since 14th Jan 2005, plus gross interest at 8%pa - didn't realise it would happen that quickly.

Note HMRC has taken 20% of the interest element of the compensation - they don't miss a trick!
  • :j I have come home from work to a cheque from the AI Scheme for £238.74 :)
  • Did successful claimants use, the MSE template, or the list of 'options' in the AI letter, or stick to the one which relates to the mis-selling, i.e. I was sold insurance for a risk for which I was not liable (paraphrased). That specific risk being what the compensation is actually being awarded for. I do not see the point of the 'options' in the AI letter as only one is appropriate. Are the other 'option' choices an opportunity for claimants to claim for something not being compensated- e.g. Sentinel will 'phone all/any of your card holders if you lose a card - or I have lost my passport, or I need a cash advance due to a loss abroad?'

Hi when my 'Sentinel' becomes cancelled once a claim goes through, could another account be opened in my partners name? We have found 'Sentinel Gold' useful & helpful in the past with lost/stolen cards, other documents also. What else is available other than 'Sentinel Gold' for card protection?

    Thx

  • Hi,
I've received a claim form from AI. Like others it states if I claim before March 16th 2016 my product immediately becomes invalid, as my policy also covers keys and luggage I'm reluctant to claim immediately as we have had keys (we didn't raelise we had lost at the time) returned to us via this scheme.

Does anyone know of another scheme that covers keys and luggage please?

    Rosie
  • Most 'Contents' parts of a Buildings & Contents Insurance policy include lost keys, albeit without any automatic return system, and luggage is part of your home contents. Generally away from home for up to 60 days would provide any cover whilst away. Naturally you need to know you have lost an item in order to claim, and for keys this usually includes new locks if needed. Re keys and luggage. I have customised swing tags, bought via Swift Tag on E Bay, which my wife & I have attached to our keys ,and we secure similar ones inside our luggage. These feature only our mobile 'phone numbers for a legend 'If found please call or text 0044 07 .....etc '. Thus the items cannot be related to our address. I hope this helps.
  • Further to my post on 9th Sept., I received a cheque for £245 from AI last week for 2005-2012. Got to say Tesco and AI both paid compensation very quickly; other companies should own up for their misdemeanors as quick!
I've been called a witch more than once....
  • I had a Marks and Spencer budget card and later a credit card I remember being pressured to take out the sentinel protection which I did .i have not seen any mention of Marks and Spencer in any of the articles or forums I have no idea how to proceed .
