Have you had a reply to this as I have the same question? I don't want to cancel the whole bank account package though?0
-
Up until 18 months ago I was a Lloyds/TSB Bank customer for approx 20 years. As part of the monthly charge I paid for the pleasure of having this account I was entitled to so called freebies, one of which was Sentinel Card Cover (I always thought it was about as useful as a chocolate teapot and never had cause to claim on it by the way!).
My question is would I still be eligible to claim any money back from Sentinel even though the policy cover was provided and paid for via a 3rd party Lloyds/TSB by way of their account charge?
Thanks in anticipation of a positive response!
Hi I'm also looking for confirmation on this point ? I still have the bank account as a live account and am happy with the other products but can I claim for the portion on this insurance?0 -
I wrote "The product provided cover for fraudulent use of my cards if they were lost or stolen, but this cover was not needed because my card issuer already provided such cover." You could use Martin's suggested words but I wanted to keep it simple and it worked. If you already have the claim form to return they have all the information they need, you don't need to provide anything else

kevinG:This scheme is limited to products sold between 14 January 2005 and August 2013. It never did become AI, that is just the name of the parent company (Affinion International).

I made a successful claim thanks to the advice on this site and in particular answers from KevinG..thankyou!
I took his advice above, no need to write long letters or look up templates..just a couple of lines on their form for the reason for claim and yes they had all the details anyway. I got a payment of about £205 for the period 2005 til 2011!!! Woo hoo. Lol I was not even aware I had the policy in place still in those years. The process was simple as anything. Don't have to prove anything and they contest nothing. Just phone them first on the contact number given, and they will frely give you the dates of your policy.
PRE 2005:
I took out my policy in 1990 so was keen to see if I could make a claim for the previous years, spurred on by some reports on here of successful claims. If not for that I would have even contemplated it as the AIscheme is clearly from 2005.
I was succesful :-). :-). ..received a huuge payout of £387 (in addition to the (£205 for post 2005) and just want to say how easy it was and what I did to get it.
First I called AI to ask them how I claim for the previous period..they gave me the contact details for Sentinel, who they said I originally took it out with.
Having called Sentinel they said I took the policy out with Barclaycard originally. I called AI again and gave me contact address for Barclaycard and told me to title my letter Ref Barclaycard PPI.
So I wrote a very simple letter to Barclaycard quoting my policy number and the scheme reference no as detailed on the original Ai letter, the dates of the policy from 1990 til 2011 and that had successfully claimed from AI for period from 2005 and that had been advised to seek reimbursement Compensation from them for the earlier period as it was sold by them. No further info, no reasons, that was it.
In less than ten days I received a letter from Barclaycard saying they had looked into it, found all my details, that they could not prove the PPI element was justified in being sold to me at the time and approved my claim, reimbursing all premiums plus interest at 8% and just wanted me to tell them how I would like to be paid. :-)
(So, to save time it's probably worth adding your bank details etc in the letter in the event they find in your favour.)
Fab fab fab!! Altogether £592 for something I had no paperwork for and limited info. Please don't be put off by those saying on here it is not possible to claim for any premiums paid before 2005 or as one poster put..to be happy with what you've got and that it's just greed to ask for more. At the end of the day it was deemed that these policies were largely missold and no harm in asking..the worst that will happen is that they decline your claim..but you might get a nice surprise, like me.
Good luck..and thank you again to those that posted helpful info on this link before aswell as KevinG :-)0 -
Only after watching the Martin Lewis show a while ago, when the word Sentinel was mentioned, I recalled my late dad paying for Sentinel. I rang the freefone number and said I was executor and "thought" dad had this cover. They checked whilst I was on the phone and sent out a claim form. I returned this with all the proof of ID they requested and a cheque arrived yesterday.
Don't worry if you don't have proof, I didn't have anything as dad passed away in 2012. They had all the information they needed.0 -
I have had Sentinel for more than 20 years, which we have used to notify lost cards and we also have the key tags. The letter says that if I return the claim my cover will cease. What alternatives do I have for the notification and key tag service please?0

I've only just found out about this when seeing a news article on Breakfast TV. I've contacted CO-OP Visa whom I bought the sentinel Gold protection through and that claim has now been recorded, but I don't think the form will come out in time from A1 for me to get it back in time for the 18 March deadline. Will that be it then,as they won't accept a scanned form returned by email? I have no idea what information A1 will want and I know that I got rid of it when I cancelled a few years ago. I certainly don't remember getting a letter in January 2016.0

I responded to the letter regarding the AI scheme and received a refund for the period 2005 - 2014. However, I had a Barclaycard in 1990 and that was when I was sold the Sentinel insurance. I was just completing a claim letter to Barclaycard, when I realised that as from 1992, I changed the card to a NatWest Visa and paid the insurance from that account till 2014. Do I have to claim from both Barclaycard and NatWest? Technically, Barclaycard is the company that sold the insurance.0

AI have just advised me over the phone that a decision has been made concerning my claim and the result is in the post. The advisor was unable to advise me over the phone. Anyway, I enquired about claiming pre 2005 and was given Sentinel's no. I have just come off the phone from a very nice advisor. He asked me a few questions about how I originally took out the policy, which I have to say, given that I took it out over 20 years ago, I was a bit vague. Nevertheless, after a few moments he came back and said that I was eligible for a complete refund, totalling £118, and offered to either send a cheque or do a direct transfer to my bank account.
Thank you to Martin and others on this forum.0
