Normally they take about 3 weeks, but obviously the Christmas/New Year break may slow things down. If nothing arrives soon you could always 'phone AI and check that they have got your claim.

Hi, i have my claim form to fill in but have no idea what products i had Sentinel on.

I dont have any of my cards now as i got into alot of debt with them.

Am unsure what to put in the box where is says why i should be considered, as i have no idea what am claiming against.

Should i ring and speak to them ?

    Thanks

Read some of the earlier posts. Ring AI & they will tell you the dates when you had Sentinel protection and the Issuer of the policy. They will not tell you what to give as your reason for claiming.
As for the reasons, you will see that others, including me, kept it simple. 'I was sold a product which provided insurance cover which I did not need, as the Issuer was liable for any fraudulent or unauthorised use of my card (s). See Kevin G (03/11/15, 6.13. It's a little earlier on this page) & has a similar message. Some of the possibilities suggested as a reason for compensation listed on the AI claim form are, in my opinion, not things that would entitle you to compensation. So keep it simple. Hope this helps.
  • Did everyone understand that as soon as any compensation is paid, from that point forward you are blocked from membership of Sentinel for life - and any membership is automatically cancelled. I didn't anyway...

Yes I knew this as I read it in advance of the High Court agreement re the compensation, so I did not renew my policy. It was also featured in the paperwork from AI.
I have heard that there is another company offering similar protection against losses, injury etc but have no details.
You may wish to look at your 'Contents' aspect in your Home Insurance as there is frequently some cover there, albeit it does not normally include contacting all card issuers, passport office, DVLA etc. Most foreign holiday insurers include cover for losses whilst travelling, as I'm sure that you know. Hope this helps.
  • Sentinel Claim Pre 2005 RBS?
    6.1.16
Success with claim for Post 2005 claim and got chq for £201. Took product out early 90's through RBS so called and spoke with rep who knew nothing about AI Scheme (seems strange) and after explaining he advised would pass my complaint onto Specialist Complaints Team. Have received standard complaint handling hold letter re 8 weeks to respond. Has anyone had dealing with RBS re the Sentinel pre 2005 claims? I have read of Barclays, Lloyds, NatWest and Coop successful claims Pre 2005 but nothing for RBS been mentioned. Anyone got any feedback?

I have no personal knowledge of RBS's position, but Lloyds told me that if AI admit a claim and pay out then the claim is automatically passed to the Card Issuer for pre- 2005 policy holders for payment of compensation (albeit they don't call it compensation just refund of premiums & interest) covering the period for which the issuer is liable. AI may be willing to tell you if they passed your claim on to RBS and if so to whom & when. On they other hand AI might not assist, but in this life if you don't ask you don't get! So give a whirl & see what happens.

My pre-2005 claim wasn't automatically passed to Barclaycard, I had to do it, but it was very easy and they paid up in about a week.

  • I got my refund but they took 20% tax. Why when I paid the fee out of taxed income? Also, when I asked them how this tax would be credited to my tax record when they don't have my NI number they couldn't give me an answer!

The 20% tax is on the interest part only, not what you paid out of your taxed income, and interest is currently subject to 20% tax, if you pay tax at 20%. There is no need for anything to be "credited to your record" - tax works on a self-assessment basis. You declare the net interest figure on your tax return and if you have not earned enough to pay tax, the tax will be refunded. If you pay 40% tax you will be charged extra. If you pay tax at 20%, you don't need to do anything as you are all square.
