That's a good outcome - I've had my compensation cheque but I paid at least £140 (my records only go back to 1993!) prior to 2005 so it's worth pursuing.2kWp Solar PV - 10*200W Kioto, SMA Sunny Boy 2000HF, SSE facing, some shading in winter, 37° pitch, installed Jun-2011, inverter replaced Sep-2017 AND Feb-2022.0

Just to say thank you, I followed the tips on this site for the Sentinel claim (which I haven't had for quite a few years) and I've received a cheque for £68!0

Well, a short form and one simple sentence as my reason for claiming, and Lo! a cheque net of tax for £216.58 a mere 3 weeks after posting, so thanks to MSE and all contributors0

apologies if this has already been answered but what should I send to request information on which cards I had cover with.
I've had a number of credit cards and bank card in my life and KNOW i had cover on a couple, but cant recall which.
what template should I send?0 -
@yeslek.
I may be wrong but my understanding is that any claim should be against the card issuer/bank which sold you the initial Sentinel( or other similar company/scheme name) policy. Once a policy holder you were able to list your cards with e.g.Sentinel, but as I understand things that does not enable you to claim against all card issuers from whom you may have had a card. Thus you should only make one claim for the period prior to that provided by the AI Compensation Scheme i.e. prior to 14 January 2005. If I am wrong no doubt a better informed member of the MSE Forum will say so. As for the amount of unneeded cover, well the amounts varied over time, but were as per the templates as 'up to'. The maximum cover was £100K. The AI Helpline will tell you which company sold you the policy initially and when that was. They will not tell you what claim to make or the amount you can claim. The issuer will/should know what you paid over the pre-compensation period if you do not have that information. I hope this is correct and helpful.0 -
I received a letter inviting me to claim.
A section asks "Why do you want to be considered for compensation".
I can't recall which product i had this with, although the Sentinel name rings a bell.
What should i put as my reason.
I see the templates on the MSE site refer to either
"it covered them for up to £100,000 worth of unauthorised transactions that occurred after they informed AI that a card was lost of stolen."
Or
"covered them for up to £5,000 worth of unauthorised transactions that occurred before they informed AI that a card was lost or stolen"
I can't remember what my reason was so what should i put in that section of the form?0 -

Kevin G's reply works well. I used a simple sentence similar to the above and got a cheque in 3 weeks.
Re the pre AI scheme compensation period,Lloyds rang this morning following my claim letter for the period from 2003. I have been assured that if an AI claim has been met the compensation for earlier periods will be passed automatically to the bank/card issuer and that a further cheque will be sent out after a further 4 weeks. Lloyds said it is unnecessary to make a second claim. We shall see!0 -
It really doesn't matter. I wrote: "The product provided cover for fraudulent use of my cards if they were lost or stolen, but this cover was not needed because my card issuers already provided such cover." Anything along similar lines should be fine.
Thanks, i used that and posted my letter today.
Although i called AI to ask who I had Sentinel with and they said it was RBS from 2006 to 2007 so I'm not expecting much back if it was only for 1 year and tax will be deducted.0 -
Well it looks as though Lloyds was as good as its promise after my letter of claim and its assurance that any claim which had been met under the AI Compensation Scheme would automatically be passed to them to deal with the pre-claim period. A cheque arrived yesterday for £70.28 after tax. I first joined Sentinel on 24 April 2003, so it was more than I had expected.0
