I was successful in my claim pre 2005 with Barclaycard. I got £310 from 1993-2005.
  • Has anyone had any success with a Lloyds bank pre-2005 claim?

After phoning Sentinel directly, they advised it was an issue with my provider ie. Lloyds bank who mis-sold the product to me originally.

I phoned the Lloyds customer service helpline and neither of the advisers I spoke to had heard of the AI scheme or the compensation ruling!!

If anyone has had success and willing to share, I'd be interested in how they went about it.

Letter using the template provided directly to Lloyds bank?

    Thanks in advance.
  • If Lloyds Asset Gold is one of the protection plans listed in the AI Compensation Scheme as approved in the High Court, and if AI has awarded compensation then Lloyds asserts that it will pay up immediately i.e. in 3 weeks, automatically. I wrote to Lloyds Bank, Customer Services, Post Code BX1 1LT, and as a result got a 'phone call and a letter saying they would pay and as above they did.

If AI has not made a compensation award I do not know the answer, but I cannot see why they would not pay if you had a Lloyds card which carried the un-needed protection. It might help if you quoted what 'Sentinel' (AI) said. I hope that this helps.
  • I can't believe how easy this was. I knew I banked with Barclays some years ago so I drafted a letter using Martin's template but in my own words. I included my old address and handed in the letter last Thursday (Nov 20th) at their local branch. Got a phone call this morning asking how I wanted the £408 refunded!! Christmas is early this year :-)

Same as stewpot126, I sent my claim off using the MSE template claiming for 2 years subscription to Sentinel Gold and got £252 back within a week. Happy days!

I got a letter today from the AI Scheme for £150.68 for the period after Jan 2005. Contacted the helpline after reading some of the other replies to this forum post to see if I'd been paying in before then. Seems I have!!

Was given details to contact the complaints line at HSBC (seems they administrate the defunked GM Card), who have now logged a complaint for the period 2000-2004. Fingers crossed another cheque maybe!

Hi initially received £274 from the A1 Scheme & just when I was about to contact my bank I received another check for £339.88 for when I first started using 'Sentinel' which was Sept 1989. So luckily I didn't need to contact anyone about costs before 2005.

    Total: £613.88 (Happy Days)

That was all pretty easy - got £281.78 from AI scheme then one phone call to AI to confirm that Barclaycard sold me the policy, one secure message to Barclaycard and a few days later a letter saying I will get another £428.28 for the period back to 1987 (although prior to December 1993 is an estimate), No proof or statements needed.

Great site. Such a lot of info. We sent our info off to A1 about a month ago. When are we likely to receive a cheque?
