Hi Everyone - Member of branch staff from Abbey here - Believe me in the branches we are as mad as all of you - we are fed up - we are not being told anything - My card expires end of February (problems hopefully resolved by then) but my hubby's card ran out 31st July - Guess what - Post received today - NO CARD. One of my colleagues cards expired 30th June & they still haven't received new cards, even though in the branch we have re ordered them 3 times!!! So it is even affecting staff too!!! If you go into the branches, please bear in mind that the branch staff are as much in the dark as you are - we are getting shouted at everyday now (understandably)

Presumably it's more than the estimated 200 customers then?
    I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.
  • Well I work in one branch and had 10 complaints alone on 1st August & there are over 800 branches!

Got my NEW Abbey DB card today after one month of my application for a current account with them. They certainly break the record of my history. Well, I am still waiting for the pin to arrive. And the cheque book, paying in slip....hope you all guys will get the card very soon.
  • just called Abbey CS (Premium Banking) i have been talking to them since 21st July since i knew my card would expire end of July and i needed replacement before i go on holiday. rang them earlier this week during which they assured me it will arrive by Friday 3rd, after blaming the floods, postal strike and some IT mishap to do with integrating business systems between Santander and Abbey. after threatening to move my business i managed to get them to cover all my costs for using credit cards for cash advances or purchases as a result of not having my debit card during my holiday. cannot believe that Abbey did an IT integration at what must be the busiest time of year for families going on holiday. Guess what the card has still NOT arrived they cant' even confirm if my card has actually been posted but they assume it has. it is so annoying that one small piece of plastic can cause so much stress!!!!
  • Whey Could Abbey Not Do The Decent Thing And Either Send Out Apology Letters Or An Announcement In The Papers.

I've just come back from an awful trip (heavy traffic & a car that's leaking water) to my local council offices. I have to make a payment to them by Monday, normally I would do it over the phone (oops, no card), or by post (not a chance with the strikes on), so I had to go there in person & use the last of my cash to make the payment. Not happy

Luckily I've been growing some veg this year otherwise we'd be struggling for food at the moment!

What also irks me at the moment is the fact that Abbey knew last week that cards would be sent out late, but when thay posted them on Tuesday (allegedly) they still used Royal Mail despite all the strike action?
  • bibaboo - you should charge them parking and petrol fees - they would charge you if you were late paying your overdraft etc.
  • Well mine arrived today, but my OH is still waiting for his! Trying not to get too excited because the reality is that Abbey have made me wait all this time.

We have a credit card bill to pay by debit card and also a holiday to pay by debit card otherwise we would be charged a fee for paying by credit card. We could potentially have been in a very embarassing financial situation due to the Abbey.

I have set a complaint in motion with them. This is not good enough.

And we have decided, that when we both can access our funds, we will be transferring to another bank after 34 and 20 years with the Abbey respectively.

I hope many others will join us.

My hasn't arrived today, but then I had a flash of inspiration. A couple of years ago Abbey provided me with an electron card (don't know why) and it was still in my wallet. It expires in November and I knew the PIN, so I'm solvent again! I'll still be down at the branch tomorrw though.

Hoooorayyyyyyyyyy - my card arrived this morning. Didn't even know that it had expired until I tried to use it in M&S this morning - very embarrassing. Banks are quick enough to charge you when you make mistakes with your money, the least they could have done is inform you of this !!!! up - they have our e-mail address if we use online banking, so there is no excuse whatsoever.

Will be changing my mortgage soon, if I can find another bank to link my mortgage to I think I will be saying bye bye to Abbey
