  • Yes I agree about a collective complaint. They say thousands of addresses lost on their database but I bet every customer received their copy of the new terms and conditions sent to their address. How do we go about making a collective complaint, they would just ignore us as usual.

There was an article on Radio 5 Money this morning and the guy they interviewed (either from card issuing company or Abbey [can't remember]), said all outstanding cards had been posted out by Tuesday of this week. He claimed the delays were due to the flooding and postal strikes.

Hi I am very angry with Abbey. I am away from home on holiday. Only realised my debit card had expired when used it on 1st August.
Abbey initially lied and said card had been sent out late plus flood excuse. But today was told by Abbey that the card had never, and was not going to be sent out. Because of database problem addresses have been lost of thousands of customers. SO ADVICE CHECK WITH ABBEY AGAIN HAS YOUR CARD BEEN SENT OUT AT ALL. I was only told this because due to this problem my teenage daughter took my electron and business cards out of house, to phone info to me, so I could use internet away from home. But unfortunately these cards were then stolen. It was whille putting a stop on these Abbey cards that Abbey admited my debit card would never have arrived anyway!!!!
I am going to change my bank and saving accounts now as fed up plus indian call centre very very unhelpful.
I think we should all take out a collective complaint against Abbey.

We're going on holiday at the end of next week. If they haven't got it sorted out by then, we'll have no spending money. I have cash in various internet accounts that I can't withdraw without a valid card.
    I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

Hi, I'm another person who is still waiting for my new card to arrive. My post has already been this morning & still no card.

    I'm really not happy!

Also in the same position, but didn't realise until I tried to use it yesterday! Fortunately we have a current account so we can use my wife's card. What really p's me off more about this is when I rang it's obvious the person I spoke to has had the same call hundreds of times.

I use e-banking, they have my e-mail adress etc etc. Why can't Abbey put a message on their home page, a message when you call them (they have one for anyone trying to claim fees) and e-mail all their users? That way I wouldn't have spent over an hour trying to get through. Numpties.

I totally agree they only had to put a message on their homepage but it was obviously not worth the bother to them.My card finally arrived this morning but im still really angry at the way Abbey has handled this, and I know there is still a lot of mse members who are still waiting. So count me in if we do a collective complaint. They should issue a public apology they dont seem to realise how much they have inconvenienced people. You can bet your life they would be quick to charge you if you had " their money" and they couldnt get their hands on it.
  • Hi,

same story, was told when I phoned on 1st. that card would be here in 2 working days, still not here today.

Might change, as all the hassle with DD's etc, is all done by new bank.

Any bank offering incentives to transfer?

If mine hasn't come today I'm off to the branch tomorrow to get my complaint down in writing. I was given a bottle of wine by Abbey last time I complained about something.

Getting through to Abbey CS at the moment is like mission impossible  , I've tried using the form on their website but they never phone back. So right now I don't know if my card is:

    a) On its way but delayed by strikes/flooding/Abbey incompetence

    b) Was sent but has been stolen (guess I won't know that until someone takes money out of my account) or

    c) was never sent because they lost my details/don't like me anymore/couldn't be bothered.

How am I supposed to know if I can't speak to anyone, arghhhhhh . Right now I'm a woman on the edge (and with PMS).
  • Hi Everyone - Member of branch staff from Abbey here - Believe me in the branches we are as mad as all of you - we are fed up - we are not being told anything - My card expires end of February (problems hopefully resolved by then) but my hubby's card ran out 31st July - Guess what - Post received today - NO CARD. One of my colleagues cards expired 30th June & they still haven't received new cards, even though in the branch we have re ordered them 3 times!!! So it is even affecting staff too!!! If you go into the branches, please bear in mind that the branch staff are as much in the dark as you are - we are getting shouted at everyday now (understandably)
