I am still without a card also. Spoke to someone else on a different phone number today who seemed helpful and at least apologised - first one in what is now 19 phone calls and 4 visits to my branch. I have now been told that a glitch which caused some addresses to be "unconfirmed" was only noticed this week. He did not say whether mine was one of those, I am assuming it is. I have been told the first card has been cancelled and a second issued which will be with me by Wednesday next week...sound familiar? Doesn't it just. No-one has offered compensation but I shall be phoning the complaints department on Monday and demanding some. Abbey are still not posting on their site or on the access page to online banking anything about these problems let alone an apology. Soon as I can I shall change banks.

Just out of interest what number did you call to get to speak to someone sensible?

Helpful lady got in touch with card services who told her that the reason I hadn't received my card was because it was never issued! Why? Some rubbish about my address coming up unconfirmed when the card request was originally made, so the card wasn't sent. Oh great! I believe some other people have had the same problem.

Anyway she ordered a new card for me there & then and I'll just have to wait for it to turn up (and keep my fingers crossed that it does!). She at least gave me a direct number for my branch & said to contact her if it doesn't arrive in a couple of weeks.

The mystery deepens.... After being told on Tuesday that no card had been issued at the end of July, one landed on my doorstep this morning! Now is this the card 'that was never issued', or is it the card that was requested on Tuesday this week (probably too quick for that though). I'm just getting more confused, I just want a card that I know I can use!

0800 1697903 is the number I have been using since it was posted on a Usenet Group .It is for Card Services and IS NOT in India .Just ignore the blurb you hear at the start about it being for Abbey Internal use .Just hold and someone will answer

Thats similar to what happened to me last friday .Told because my address was unconfirmed the card hadn't been sent and another was ordered only for the non-issued card to arrive on Saturday .I am now waiting on the new new card which has a different number on it of course so thats something else I need to train myself to remember along with the new online banking numbers ..
The card you got was almost certainly the non -issued card and will not work in machines if you try it .

Bibaboo, be aware of what Molley has said. If this is your new card it will have a NEW number on it. Sadly, it will also mean that you have to wait for your new passcode, your new registration no. (for internet banking) and your new pin no. All sent separately! ! I have just been through all this. As I have said in an earlier post, after 21 years, I'm off (to A&L).

It's the internet banking thing that confuses me, I can still access my internet banking (just tried it).

When I went into the branch on Tuesday it was card services that told the advisor I was talking to that no card had been issued at the end of July. They then told her that she would have to initiate the request for a new card from the branch terminal. As far as she was concerned there was no card to cancel as the old one had already expired & no new one had been issued (and said so to me at the time), so she went ahead & requested a new card for me. So if a new card with a new number is on the way to me, why can I still access my internet banking (using my existing card number)?

Is it possible she just ordered another issue of the same card?

I have had a card renewed previously and the card number should not change, it should only change if you have registered it as lost and stolen.?

Is the number on the "new" card the same as the old one? If so, this would seem to be good news. As Stacey21 has said, it must only change if the "original" card was reported "lost" or "stolen". This would be why I couldn't access internet banking (or the ATM), because when my original renewal card didn't arrive, I asked for another card to be issued, not knowing a couple of things at that time, 1. my renewal card was sitting in the local Branch office and 2. that the no. on the card would change and cause me all that trouble. If you see my post no. 25, you will see that my situation was different to most others on this thread. My renewal card had actually arrived at the Branch 2 days before the old one expired and the "new" replacement card had also been delivered there 5 days after it was ordered. The only problem was, I didn't ask for either of them to be delivered there; and I didn't get the notification letter for each card which I was supposed to get.

There appear to be some ,myself included, who have had new cards issued by Abbey because they believe that a card has gone missing but has in fact just taken a wee bit longer to get to the customer .Thats what happened to me .My renewal card arrived the day after Abbey Card Services stopped it and generated a new one .Thats why I cannot now use Internet banking until the reg/passcode numbers arrive along with the card and pin number .GRRR !!!
  • I have just received TWO new cards from Abbey, both with the same expiry date AND 3 digit code on the back!!

Valid from date states on them 06/07 although the person on the phone said to me the reason it was late was because it was 'under 6 feet of water'??? Are Abbey just lying to me?
