McDonalds security guard stopped a gay kiss.

I can see the situation in my head. A young, drunk gay couple making a bit of a scene whilst there is a potential bald middle aged nutjob security guard trying to keep everyone in check.
Of course what he did is homophobic, but on the same token the younger generation must realise that the older generation still have some homophobic behavior ingrained into their beliefs simply because we were less tolerant in their day. It is thus potentially correct to assume that shows of public affection between same sexes may well make a good number of people uncomfortable. Combine it with a load of young, drunk, people and the security guard may even have a legitimate reason to try and stop them (ie to stop things from kicking off).
Of course, this is just speculation on your post which does not link to a news source:
Re the bolded part. No, it's not up the younger generation to "realise" that some older generation may be homophobic. It's up to the homophobes to realise that we are, or supposed to be, a more open and tolerant society.
I will brook no counter argument I'm afraid.0 -

I WOULD have complained if I had been there.
Appropriate behaviour is so often lacking in the young and a complete disregard for anyone else's view. After all, they have RIGHTS!!!!!!
So you are against showing affection for one another in public?
I gave my granddad a kiss when he was alive when we scored at the football - in fact I remember I kissed me mate on the cheek at the same game when we scored again - does that offend you?Dont rock the boat
Dont rock the boat ,baby0 -
I'd rather they intervened when anyone was snogging, regardless of gender. Last thing I want to see when I'm eating (I use that term loosely iro MacDonalds) is people with their tongues down each others throats.
Got no problem with this. So long as the same rule as applied to all sexes/sexual orientations, then that's absolutely fine.
But cannot have one rule for one, and another rule for another.0 -
The issue isn't with the kiss, which if you believe the only source of information available was a peck, but with the fact that if it had been a heterosexual customer the security guard wouldn't have had a problem.
Blatant homophobic discrimination.
All this talk of agendas, drooling over and full on snogging is just a smoke screen to turn the event into something it (probably) wasn't.0 -
People have to be so careful what they say and do in the workplace. The security operative surely would have known his actions would lead to disciplinary action of some kind for this.Britain is great but Manchester is greater0

The most bizarre part of this story is that a McDonalds has, or needs, a bouncer/security guard.0

Maybe there is a good argument for having Gay Burger Bars as well as Gay villages?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

You should never "brook no counter argument" because that means that you have a closed mind.
As it happens, I absolutely agree with you. In practice, though, people of different age groups have had different experiences and attitudes ingrained from an early age. It is dangerous to assume that someone who grew up during a less tolerant time will simply embrace change at the drop of the hat. Society is made up of the wide array of age groups, of whom they may carry such attitudes. It is therefore unreasonable to assume that everyone will embrace homosexuality simply because the younger generation consider it "correct" (which it is correct, but it isn't accepted by all).
I guess it all boils down to the fact that homosexuality is absolutely normal/accepted, BUT a negative reaction may be received (and a lot worse than what happened) so yes I stand by any comment which advises some discretion. Gay displays of kissing is going to make people feel uncomfortable, that it is a fact. It may also end up in you getting stabbed in a random homophobic attack. And anything in between. There MAY also be a case for the security guard protecting the person from such acts of violence, especially if the truth has been bent a bit by the victim here (don't fully believe the news reports!). There could have been some EDL nutjob waiting for his cheeseburger whilst stroking his gouging knife within earshot, to which the security guard has correctly intervened to protect the guy. Or he could have just been a bit homophobic, and anything in between! Who knows?!0 -
My goodness. Don't people have bizarre opinions on this subject..0
