Please don't tell Dandeloon, but i have a chronic bowel condition that virtually means that the only time i spend a day away, is when i visit my mum 120 miles away.

My sister a number of years ago took it on herself to control mum's finances. Nothing legal has been initiiated as far as im aware. I have no desire to drive a wedge between my sister and mum as the latter was desperate for company and an opportunity to get out of her flat(something that i couldn't provide regularly)

Mum years ago received Attendance allowance through the kindness and help of the Warden there. She advised us not to tell the other siblings about this, as she knew them only too well! I spent a lot of the excess cash on holidaying with her in country cottages here there and everywhere.
I would have loved to have seen my sister's face when she inadvertently years later discovered, where all the money for mum's trips came from!

Now that any mum's excess money is channeled into the residential home fees, it came as no surprise that my sister "developed financial problems" and had to move out of her accommodation and back to her old house.

The relationship with my sister is a fait accompli but i have every right to contact and be contacted by my mum or whoever is responsible for her care.

Mum has now, no excess money at all for her day to day needs and when i turn up (once every 13 weeks) it is me who pays for dinner out and i give her pocket money for toileteries etc!

There's a heap of irony here when your above post is read after your signature which is:

"A bad man will spend his whole life boasting about just one good deed.. - However, a good man, will find that his life has been corroded by a single bad one"

Taking your mum on holiday years ago, visiting four times a year and paying for a few toiletries is not what makes a good son.

Giving her your time, love and understanding plus trying to minimise family conflict or antagonism towards carers would be a better approach.

But hey - it's your conscience.
