Minerva_Windsong personally I don't see anything wrong with asking your housemate to just pick up a bit too - I'm sure you have coat hooks so his coat doesn't really have to go on the vacuum cleaner. Maybe he'll see what you're doing and it'll spark him into action?

Elasticmoney how did you get on?

Apart from ironing I've done everything on the list and it does look much better. Our front door gets in a right old state - we have a Whippet who jumps up at the door when he's ready to come in from the garden and he invariably has muddy paws! Going to have lunch now and sit and do some knitting til DH gets home then off for a walk.

Pigpen I'm sure you know about it, but have you discovered Ravelry? I know you enjoy knitting and I'm rediscovering my love of it too as something relaxing to do. If you don't already know about it or if any other knitters don't know about it then check it out. Be warned though - people sell yarn on there and someone I could mention has spent a bit more than she should really but got some good bargains

Can I ask a question - what are your OH's/family's/other people you live with's involvement in the flying? I ask because as I've mentioned previously we have a housemate, and thinking of today's 15 minute task a lot of the clutter in our hallway is his (eg coats hung on the vacuum cleaner), but I feel a bit awkward asking him to tidy up after himself because it's his home too. I don't mind things like clearing up his plates/glasses left in the lounge because they're all communal, and I'm quite happy to let him deal with his own room as he sees fit, but there's something about asking him to move his stuff that just feels like it's too much (even though I think he would do it if I asked).

I expect OH to clear up after himself, and he does - apart from the loo roll middle!

Other people will have other ideas, and as we have lodgers rather than housemates so things are slightly different, but there is absolutely no way I would ever, ever clear up someone else's plates, glasses or anything else on a regular basis without feeling irritated that they had left them lying around!

Our lodgers have carte blanche in their own rooms and although I run the vacuum cleaner around their rooms when I remember I never move anything in them, so if they use a floordrobe, it doesn't get done. For the same reason, while they're in residence most of them don't get their rooms dusted. (They don't really need it, either.) They are responsible for their own kitchen detritus and it's very rare any of them need to be asked to clear up after themselves - they just do.

The communal areas are not junked up, so a bit like litter, if there's nothing left lying about, people tend not to clutter it with their stuff.

Most blokes, to be really honest, simply don't see that leaving stuff about is a problem - they're about to use it, or they mean to put it away, they're going to put it away and don't mind it being in the way anyway, in my experience.

Speaking of litter - yesterday's 'litter' was a shopping trolley left in the corner supermarket car park which other people were walking past so I retrieved it and claimed the quid. *kerching*
    Better is good enough.

    I found 2p yesterday *kerching*

Not made a great deal of progress this morning. It's grey and damp and miserable here, so have lost my GUAG.
    WMx2
Two long phonecalls with friends about our mutual friend (the one in hospital).
Long talk to DH about holiday dates. We have different ideas about where to go and what to do, so nothing will be done until nearer the time except for blocking 2 weeks in June in our diaries. I suppose that's progress - of sorts.
Red lentil dhal soup bubbling :)

I shall be buying the reflective newspaper tomorrow for the @!d! voucher so will forget about food shopping today. Might pop to the bank in the next town this afternoon to pay in some cheques.

I need to sort the freezers...

Still snowing here. It hasn't let up all day, so unlikely I'll get the car out for swimming. Although I'll see what the main road is like when I walk round to school.

Not had chance to fly yet, but paid stuff looking good and just about finished my main jobs for the week - hurrah! So I'll continue decluttering emails and write my plan for next week.

I did empty the DW while I made some lunch so that's a start. Oh and the bin has been emptied so I put a new liner in and had a glance in the ridge at what to use up.

So I am doing tiny bits as I go...

Keep warm, everyone. I'm going to take spare gloves round to school in case of losses or soggies. And a shopping bag - DD always has a pile of pictures for me on a Wednesday, bless her.

Oh Iona - thanks for the reminder. I must get one as well.

Just done order from large supermarket for monthly heavy stuff - delivery charge is cheaper than the petrol to get there!
Apart from that not done very much - again! this is getting to be a bad habit.

    Right - HHC x 2 starting at 14:00 anyone?

By 'eck, there's been a lot of posts since yesterday!!:D OK, I'll use an 0pen0ffice document to do a reply as I read, I think.... :o

Empty loo rolls – am I the only one with a DH who not only replaces the roll properly, but also takes the recycling out to the shed (where we keep the pink bag and blue glassware box) without being prompted?:A

HB: hand-washing: I have some stuff that runs better than Usain Bolt, much of it Indian cotton – I chuck the item to be washed in a bowl with soapy water, swoosh it, and go away and do something else. When I remember it's there, (!) I rinse, spin in the WM if necessary, and hang up to dry. No real work as such involved!;)

Jazee glad DH is ok; Mr LW always calls me to let me know he's got to work ok, as I worry myself sick otherwise.

Minerva I don't think it's unreasonable to ask your housemate to hang his coat in an appropriate place, not on the vacuum cleaner. You could put it that you need to vacuum, but feel uncomfortable about moving someone else's clothing. Fwiw, as I'm not able to go out to work, I do as much of the household stuff as I can manage; Mr LW cheerfully does the rest, and mucks in to help me get finished if I still have things to do.:A If there are plates/glasses etc to go to the kitchen, whoever's heading there next takes them.:o

    Let's take a look at today's “official” list :o

Wishful Wednesday ~ Hall, Stairs and Landing!
    15 minutes...

Tidy everything you can see when the front door is open! Coats and bird food stuff for me!!
N/A – all I can see when the front door is open is the carport! Looking inwards, the only things in the hall are three bookcases, two broomsticks (one is my ceremonial one) and my folding walking sticks.
    30 minutes to spare...
Dust and deweb.. don't forget lightbulbs and shades!
    Done
Scrub front door.. inside and out!
    Mr LW's job
Wash any curtains/draught excluders and doormats
Done recently; not necessary just yet
    Got an hour...
Empty and declutter the cupboard under the stairs.. you do not need the junk that has been in there for a million years!
Hall cupboard is really Mr LW's province, but it is all tidy and contains nothing we don't require.
Degunk, dejunk and clean the porch.. how many pizza leaflets do you need to wipe your feet on?
N/A – we haven't a porch. Pizza leaflets etc go straight in the recycling.
Declutter the floors and vacuum them.
    Been done
Empty Vacuum cleaner, wash filters and clean brushes once you have finished vaccing.. leave to fully dry before rebuilding machine!
Done as per schedule, on 6th January
    Extras
    • Wash windows and nets/blinds Windows to be done; no nets
    • Wipe and water and furry plants N/A
    • Wipe paintwork and door knobs To do when Mr LW is here to help with the paintwork
    • HHI N/A – Mr LW does the ironing on Sundays:A
    • Sort coats and bags and shoes N/A – all away in their places. I've even put my dog-walking gear out of the way in the wardrobe as we're between guests! :D
I've made Shepherd Spy for today's and tomorrow's dins; just got to shove it in the oven for half an hour later. I have to visit the Consultant tomorrow, so I shan't feel one bit like cooking (or probably eating if we're honest) tomorrow.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
