    Allegedly being the point.
Tesco have sold a phone that has got the correct IMEI number which is as far as it needs to go. When you run it through the database I gave before it comes up with a Moto E which is what the phone is.
Well, it's not the only database. I don't know what databases insurance companies use, but I don't think that they use some that proved to be unreliable.
When you run it through the Motorola database it comes up with a Moto E.
Again, I don't know how external databases get their data. Do you? Is it supplied by Motorola or just pulled by companies from Motorola's database? If it's the latter I don't see how £6K annual charge can be justified then.
If someone wants to dispute it then by all means give them proof that it is but as it stands other than someone at a bank who claims it's not correct because they've typed in the wrong number or used some dodgy website doesn't cut it.
Banks don't do this themselves. They used insurance companies for this 'free' service. No way I have a high opinion about insurance companies, but I don't think they use 'dodgy' databases. And, most likely, we have two different companies in this case saying the same.
    As far as I'm concerned if Imeidata say it's a Moto E and Motorola say it's a Moto E then it's a Moto E
This just confirms that Imeidata have the correct information. This doesn't exclude the possibility of other legitimate databases having incorrect information for some unknown reason.

That said, many times in the past I said that IMHO all this malarkey with IMEI databases and IMEI blocking was ill-thought and, what's more important, useless. It creates endless problems and doesn't benefit anybody.

Whilst it's not the only database it's the only one that gives correct information that we have available to use without paying for access.

It's complicated but manufacturers register with the BABT, the manufacturers then apply for TAC numbers from them and then add serial numbers for the phones they make and add a check digit which means the complete IMEI number is correct.
The important number in this case is the TAC (35331806) as this identifies the make model where it was made etc. being Motorola Moto E.
The serial number in this case 226580 doesn't really matter because we've already identified the phone as being Moto E which is the dispute . The check digit in this case 5 validates the equation meaning the whole number is correct.

The problem here is that we are relying on a 15 digit number being passed around by the OP and Bank clerk and an insurance company and expecting them to pass it on and type it in without making a mistake .
    Garbage in garbage out.!

Exactly and as we can assume they pull the data from GSMA we can assume this is correct

You don't need to, go on the website put in your IMEI number and it tells you you've got a Moto E

Well more success at a Tesco store.
Needed to pop to maplin for a couple of bits and its next to Tesco that have tesco mobile outlet, so took phone in and explained to them and showed them emails from CS, so they checked the IMEI on their system which allows then to check on the GSMA database and it showed a Samsung which the dept manager was shocked as he could see it was not a Samsung, so he checked another Motorola Moto E they had in stock and still a Samsung shows up. He told me to wait while he went to his office to check a few things, about 10 minutes later he returned with a Moto G which was correctly listed and asked if i would like the Moto G at no extra cost due to the issues i have had. I accepted

As regards Tesco customer service, I too had a few problems but found them superb. Orange on the other hand were a nightmare
