The most reliable is http://imeidata.net/ which as pointed out gives the correct information.
The easiest solution for you is to check with Motorola give them the number and ask them to look it up for you. It's not just about the money0 -
is it worth insuring a cheap phone? - After 10-12 months of insurance payments you could buy a new one.0

Wow. I can see why people are just jumping over themselves to help you.
Tesco aren't going to change IMEI database, it's nothing to do with them. Your only resolution is to cancel the contract or forget insuring it.0 -
It is clear people dont know how insurance will work or they just cant be bothered to read .
THIS IS TESCOS PROBLEM TO FIX AS THE DETAILS HAVE BEEN ADDED WRONG BY SOMEONE.
The IMEI number is installed by Motorola it has nothing whatsoever to do with Tesco.
The phone has got the correct IMEI number so the people at the bank need to check the numbers they are putting in the system. It's not just about the money0 -
What doesn't seem to get through to you is that it is not Tesco's problem.

well even Tesco live chat stated the details were wrong when they checked externally, so i dare say they were wrong too and of course MSE right yet again.
yes as the phone is from Tesco then it is them that need to figure this out and correct the issue.
I have told tesco that they can no longer run their business unless they consult with MSE and they know more than them0 -

Similarly they have obligations when selling goods that they didn't manufacture.
They can solve the problem (together with Motorola) or suffer a loss from getting back a used phone and refunding the money. The IMEI number is installed by Motorola it has nothing whatsoever to do with Tesco. The phone has got the correct IMEI number so the people at the bank need to check the numbers they are putting in the system.0 -
It is Tesco's problem as they have sold allegedly uninsurable phone, although through no fault of their own.
.
Tesco have sold a phone that has got the correct IMEI number which is as far as it needs to go. When you run it through the database I gave before it comes up with a Moto E which is what the phone is.
When you run it through the Motorola database it comes up with a Moto E.
If someone wants to dispute it then by all means give them proof that it is but as it stands other than someone at a bank who claims it's not correct because they've typed in the wrong number or used some dodgy website doesn't cut it.Correct, but if Motorola made an error they can correct it if the retailer contacts them.
.It seems to be not the bank alone who has the problem
.
As far as I'm concerned if Imeidata say it's a Moto E and Motorola say it's a Moto E then it's a Moto EIt's not just about the money0 -

dont think banks and insurance companies will use dodgy databases
also not contacted Motorola as thats upto Tesco to figure this out and as GSMA is the only OFFICIAL IMEI database (one the public have no access too) and most likely the one used by banks and insurance companies then this is the only info i can go off and it seems only Imeidata says its a Motorola and that is only 1 database.
my bank has confirmed they use GSMA and it still comes up as a Samsung, so yes it cant be added to my house insurance and for those that DONT UNDERSTAND. I WILL NOT be paying more insurance it is to be added to list of gadgets that are in our property. The main reason is as i run a business from home so items need to be listed so they know which is business assets and personal assets.0
