  • I used this helpful number to get through to a real person quite quickly - thank you. However, I was then told that the systems were down their end so they could not accept my application anyway!

Has anyone had any better luck today?

Sorry if I have not set up this reply correctly - I am new to the forum.

Quite straightforward to answer the security questions (I did have to think to remember my NI number) and deal concluded in just a few minutes.

I was a little cautious taking a number from a forum and potentially giving someone 10K from my bank account but he did give me a piece of my personal data that a scammer would not have had.

Glad to have helped. Anyone else cautious about the number. I got it by searching for a NSANDI number on saynoto0870.com

yes helenix, I managed to get the full amount on 2 joint accounts but it took a lot of persistence and included my bank blocking the second application in case of fraud. You have to do the application twice if wanting both bonds so I would recommend ringing your bank first

I personally would never use an ad hoc phone number for this, even if apparantly genuine, scammers must be having a field day

Not according to NS&I. Apparently if the system did not provide you with a reference number after the payment process the transaction cannot be traced. They advised me to cancel the transaction and start again. Apparently there are many in the same boat. The bank has told me this can't be done in a practical sense but after 5 days, if the money has not been claimed by NS&I, the money will revert to my account.

Mixed messages from NS&I - my application eventually was accepted online but failed to produce a reference number, so I got through to NS&I on the special number given above in the forum and was told if my nominated bank account has been debited (which it has) I should get a confirming email in 24 hours with a reference. I hope this is accurate! All the information on the previous application pages agreed with my existing registration so it should be possible for NS&I to link it up.

Thanks Kittie for your response too. I did not use the special number to place my application and was not asked for any bank details over the phone. I agree about the danger of scammers.

I won't be able to buy these for another 13 years. Should I start to panic now or give it a few weeks?
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

Well eventually completed the application using Firefox. You have to be very patient as the site continues to crash during the application but by hitting the resend button it did return after a a minute or two so I could complete. After I did receive my email and reference number

I hope you are right. My advice came from a person who consulted with a manager.

I see you can only apply for either the 1 or 3 yeat bond online ie there is no option in the dropdown menu to apply for both. If you apply for one do you just have to go through it all again for the other?

you have to go through the whole process all over again, right from the beginning. My first success was at 8.30am and the second at 12.15. It took that long

Thought it would do it this time as I got as far as entering my password after an age but then there was only a mandatory field button greyed out with an x and no next button to move to the next page. Retrying it just ended up with a this page can not be displayed sign.

I should get a life but I have visions of staying awake till the early hours trying to get it sorted!

thanks v much for that update, I'm in same position. I'll now leave it 24 hours before pestering them with yet another phone call to add to their queue.
