Hi tootallulah, an inspiring thread, can I join you? I have 3.5 stone to lose, and currently having some health issues, possibly Crohn's (waiting on biopsies) so I really need to sort my eating out.

I'm not a ww type of person, but have no will power, so hoping your enthusiasm/ motivation will rub off. I have 35 days until a week in The sun, and would like to lose 8lbs by then. I'm going to copy your daily count down if that's okay with you.:)

Hi CWR, I think the most disappointing thing so far is how much weight you have to lose to just go down a size at the, ahem, slightly larger end of things. Gally Girl gave me hope by pointing out this would get better as I lost weight, sizes are closer for the slimmer types. I am hoping that by 30lbs gone I will be down a size. The joy of being able to button my winter coat will not last long, and I have a lot of unworn clothing one size more down.

Every now and then we will do something mad, a year is a long time to be endlessly virtuous. One week I had a Bath bun something I had never eaten before-not sure what that was about but it was lovely at the time.

Welcome October Girl, the more the merrier, please do join in. I am not a WW person either but on line really works for me.

Day 55, 35 points - that is more like it although today I have felt tempted.

Beautiful day here I tidied the garden and planted a few more seeds in the greenhouse. Tomorrow i am clearing the last of the boxes from moving out of my flat six months ago..............about time I think.

I will also do a bit of cooking tomorrow, I need tomato and basil soup and possibly celery and greek yogurt soup. I am annoyingly full of cold which I am hoping will be shifting on in the next day or two. I have booked a short break in Majorca with my mum in April, just four nights but it will be a change for both of us.
  • Hi Toots & others, can I join too? Been lurking/reading the last few days & have around 90/100 lbs to lose too. Joined a lose & shape up class at the local gym along with my daughter (she did really well last time round & wants to do it again to keep motivated). I'm mid-40's and spent a lot of my adult life trying - and failing - to do anything more than yo-yo on and off the same 10lbs max. This time I haven't got any grand fanfares, just quietly going to try and see what I can do. I've done 2 of the 3 suggested workouts for this week & using MyFitnessPal to track (love the barcode scanning to add foods!!) so hopefully by Tuesday, which is week 2, I will have lost the first few pounds... Feeling fairly motivated at the moment and in control, but my struggle is always maintaining that. This time I really need to before I start developing any health problems (luckily none, although I twisted my knee a few days ago which is still twinging occasionally but don't usually have joint problems).

A bit of Majorca sunshine sounds lovely - I really need to deal with my fear of flying so I can do something like that.

well done to everyone sticking to it, i have had an epic fail. had a tough few months emtionally and have fallen into tried and tested eat my way out of it cures. all that has done is meant i have put on even more weight. grr but no one to blame but myself.

tomorrow is a new day - today is the final last supper lol. tomorrow i am back at my class and have signed up to diet bet (spotted it on another thread on here) as I know I respond well to bets and winning. It is an american site and you bet on yourself on various challenges and if you succeed you get your money back and a share of the winning pot. i have 4% of my body weight to lose in a month which equates to 2lb a week so definitely doable.

I am going to go back to the exercise class this week too and since it is lighter in when i get home at night i can walk the dog every day too. Motivation starts here...

Welcome Squiggly Diddly please do join in, I am going to investigate My Fitness Pal it sounds really useful. Like you I am just doing it this time, and no-one has noticed which has made it easier to just carry on with life and dieting at the same time. With so much weight to lose I don't want to have 12 months of everyone looking at each mouthful I eat and giving me their "helpful" commentary. I am looking forward to Majorca and hopefully a little bit of warmth.

Ali -t you will get there, looking forward to seeing more of you in the next few weeks, and I hope that things calm down "in real life".

Yes, after a bit of getting used to it (realising that you can change the serving size & use either a fraction or decimal, whichever is easier for that particular portion) I have found it really easy & far easier than scribbling things in a notebook & working out the calories/points. Doing the tracking definitely helps my frame of mind. Know what you mean about "helpful" people (who actually aren't...). My mum knows I am doing this and is always dropping 'hints' about getting healthy, etc - but then is the worst sabotager!! But otherwise, like you say, easier to just quietly get on with it.

I'm also hoping that this thread will contribute to the motivation too - even when there are bad times :)

Ali-t - I've been there so many times as have many of us I imagine, at least you picking yourself up and giving it another go :)

Ha, ha , ha my Mum is a prime sabotager too (just realised the word is saboteur not sure of spelling), even though no one in the World would be happier than her if I was thinner! She was well excited by my pile of new clothes but luckily didn't spot they were all 20s rather than 22s. The difficult time will come with the cricket season as she is queen of teas and often brings me over half a cake, this year it will be going into work. She was at her most marvellous yesterday and took away both laundry baskets of ironing, including two lots of bedding which will mean they return ironed completely perfectly which is deep joy for me as I don't iron bedding myself and getting into ironed sheets is wonderful.

Another beautiful day here, it gladdens the heart to see the sun.

My unpacking of boxes has not gone well but clothes sorting is going terrifically well. Lots of stuff to the charity shop, most of it seems to be black and I don't really wear black so it is quite mysterious.

I found two lots of tomato soup in the freezer so I hoiked them out, I have cooked loads of chicken and prepared bircher muesli for breakfast. My food shopping is a bit rubbish I don't seem to be buying the right things at the right time I have a freezer full of fish and meat but not enough vegetables so I will have to go food shopping again early in the week.
