Yeah I will keep confidential about who it is, but he is a major public figure, has his own Wicki Page, blah blah blah.
What does his name rhyme with?
It sounds like an absolutely horrendous situation to be in, and if he is someone who works out of the country he should have appointed someone to deal with the house purchase on his behalf.
  • A fair bit but none of it particularly good, it's a very complicated subject with far reaching consequences for a number of peoples lives. I was going to e-mail the buyer at the bottom from the link on his website.. but im showing restraint at the moment. Also felt like picking the phone up to the Sun or something as well but again im showing restraint in the circumstances.

Surely someone of this calibre can scrape up £17K ???

What a nightmare. I hope its not that Milliband person. The one who didn't get to be Labour leader. He lives in New York and is the head of an NGO and was rumoured to be coming back this way.

Don't think he has a wife with family links to India....

Don't name and shame him on here (or give more clues as to his identity) until the situation is resolved. Just to be on the safe side in case it gets messy, legally.

I'm be amazed if his solicitor is unable to contact him though. Even if he's currently somewhere with poor/no mobile reception, senior business-people generally make sure they have communication methods available when travelling.

As well as your solicitor, is the EA also putting a rocket up the buyer's solicitor? With houses of this value the EAs in the chain will be losing a large amount of commission if the chain doesn't complete.
  • Everyone is calling his Solicitor, all the estate agents and Solicitors in the chain have been at it. But question is has his solicitor told him in simple terms "you are liable for this whole mess financially" you need to complete ASAP or get sued potentially for £100sK.

Bloody hell, I've been watching this unfold with horror. I have always thought that the threat of being sued for thousands was enough to force anyone to get themselves in shape before exchanging contracts. This is a lot of people's nightmare scenario, and I feel very much for you.

There could have been an accident etc. Noone knows what has caused the situation. I really feel for you OP, this is up there as far as nightmares go. If everyone commits to selling to their buyer you may not lose the house and all the financial issues will be dealt with in due (legal) course. You are not homeless so stay in touch with your solicitor and buyer/seller.

Don't let it impact your health!
  • I have nothing of value to add but I just wanted to send my wishes to you.

I'm awaiting Exchange which should have happened before Christmas and the bottom of our chain haven't got their deposit together so I understand the frustration except yours is so much worse!!

I really hope he gets his act together pronto and you get moved soon.
  • Quick google later and we have 434 people to choose from here, some of whom wont be him (ie because they're female).

    The plot thickens....
