Oh well...maybe back to a Secretary of a major political party then...having seen one of them in action.....
"Bringing into disrepute" - that's the phrase I have been searching for. If little Joe Bloggs in the street can have his firm complain about him doing something he has done in his own time, then I daresay the same applies to Duffhead Mr Bigs.0 -

Do you need to take another dose of something or is your brain always this muddled?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
Sorry to hear it isn't resolved today. Best wishes0

This unfortunately goes from bad to worse, the buyer at the bottom has not bothered to contact his solicitor as arranged so there is no update at all. I directly called his firm of Solicitors this morning and explained we had removals outside again. He said "not my problem" and I don't act for you so can't discuss it with you. My Solicitor has been ringing him all morning, and we found out he is an"extremely high profile public figure" for an international aid agency of all things !!!!!!.
After pulling teeth with the firm at the bottom it seems they were waiting on a cheque from a pension fund withdrawal for 17K that has not showed up to use towards the house purchase. The Solicitor at the bottom has only spent his time seeing if the failed mortgage monies need to go back rather than finding out if the guy can get the 17K some other way.
Surely the Solicitor at the bottom should have made sure he had the means to complete on his purchase before exchange of contracts?.
I ran up another £1300 in removal costs today and now our possessions are going into storage. It's like living in some kind of sick dream, it's stressful enough moving without all of this happening to you.. It's not just us but the whole chain other than the freaks at the bottom who are suffering.
Even now if they get the money, the problem is there needs to be an undertaking in place for the costs apparently that he will need to sign so goodness knows where we all go from here!!!!.. It's a right nightmare.
I know everyone says, you all sue each other and it ends up in his lap but now we have all the litigation stress as well. My Doctor has put me on pills as im now so emotional and depressed.
OP, I totally feel for youWhen we were selling and buying at the end of 2014 our buyer's buyer (bottom of chain) was an aid worker for a well-known charity working in Afganistan. Despite this she had no scruples about dropping her offer significantly days before exchange, knowing full well how keen her vendor was to not lose our house......our vendor was fuming but sucked it up. Seems these people have no morals
Fingers crossed you get it all resolved very soon and that the bar steward that caused this gets his just deserts.......Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Sorry you haven't got it resolved. Hopefully it will be soon.
And hopefully you will get your costs too.
One thing I don't get is why you booked removals and racked up another £1,300 bill without any confirmation that the chain was moving again.
If I was lower down the chain, I certainly wouldn't be happy accepting that second charge. No arguments on the rest.0 -
Why don't everyone else in the chain share the £17k shortfall? Then you can move to your respective houses and sue the bottom-chain buyer later.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0

Maybe they don't have the extra ?
Lots of people would be unable to come up with any extra just after putting their deposit down.
Also, can you 'share' this shortfall and then claim that it wasn't a price reduction, etc and claim it from the first person ? I would say no.
Ethics aside, what if the first person wants to try to negotiate the price of what he is buying or wants to pull out (and carry costs that they have to - these too can be negotiated) ?0 -
What a nightmare. I hope its not that Milliband person. The one who didn't get to be Labour leader. He lives in New York and is the head of an NGO and was rumoured to be coming back this way.0

Incidentally OP, what does your solicitor say about all this?0
-
Yeah I will keep confidential about who it is, but he is a major public figure, has his own Wicki Page, blah blah blah. He has known for 4 months he is moving, so lack of planning on his part should not constitute an emergency on ours. 99.99% of all other people manage to sort their affairs out.
Apparently now as it has been two days the mortgage lenders require the funds to be sent back.
It might be a Holiday home buy for him, im not really sure.. even so treating people like this is very irresponsible.0
