  • What a nightmare. No helpful advice other than keep records of all costs so you can claim back.

My Solicitor has been ringing him all morning, and we found out he is an"extremely high profile public figure" for an international aid agency of all things !!!!!!.

    He is is he?;);).

Somebody like that may well have a publicist. One of you in the chain may be able to find out the contact details for this publicist and spell out the "facts of life" about just how much extra work said publicist might have to do to protect his client if he doesn't give him a kick up the backside sharpish?

Somebody somewhere will be in a position to remind Duffhead strongly of the consequences for his career if he keeps playing silly beggars. Can one of you find this person and talk clearly to him about this? Errrm...I think perhaps someone else in the chain, as it needs to be someone who is feeling very "cold and calm".

It's tough to go through this and I think most of us would be feeling the strain too.
If he is involved with an international relief agency though, that could well explain him being out of the country and not having the house chain as his first priority.

(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

Really? You think it's ok for someone to seriously inconvenience other people in this way and being a very very very important person doing good works excuses it all? I don't think so.
I wonder how you would feel if he had done this to you?

Megamonty - do you actually know the name of this "extremely high profile public figure" and aid agency he works for? Maybe you or your solicitor can get a message to him via the aid agency???
"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"
  • He still should fulfil his personal responsibilities.

My mind is still tossing around wondering who would be the best sort of person to deal with Mr Too Important to Care.

Someone who is used to research (university academic? Secretary (Secretary with a capital "s" that is) of a local well-known political party?)

Mr Big may not have a publicist, but I bet he does.....

I didn't read Rosie's post as defending the indefensible in any way, merely suggesting that his job could involve a high degree of international travel, often at short notice, therefore the job meant the travel was not in itself suspicious.

I'm not sure what else the solicitor COULD say to a third party without breaching client confidentiality - but one thing's for certain, he'll be a lot more frank to his actual client about the implications of this.

Whoever this guy is, the person whose house he is buying will have his name and address on their paperwork from the exchange of contracts - they'll know how to name and shame him if that's what it takes to make him pul his socks up. Can't believe anyone can put so many others through hell and get away with it.
Please don't get too worked up, it will go through as legally it has to now one way or another, you won't lose the house. The costs can be sued from your buyer and onwards down the chain and at least you'll have the most interesting house buying from hell story to tell for years to come once it's all over. Keep your chin up and wait it out :-)

The mind boggles money... How do you even come up with this random nonsense???

(Us university academics would love to get involved. Even the female ones. Not.)

Sympathy to the OP; this must be so stressful. No real legal/practical advice but can you try and detach a little so your mental health doesn't suffer even more. Don't have any expectations as to when completion will take place (because you genuinely have no idea). Try and make your situation 'liveable' and then reassess once new information comes through? A lot easier said than done I know.

All the best OP, fingers crossed for you.
